Oliver Stone just came out with a statement that has me boiling mad! "Speaking at the Venice Film Festival, Stone charged that movies such as Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down "worshiped the machinery of war" paving the way for America to go "back to the concept of war too easily." Stone, a Vietnam War veteran, who directed the anti-war film Platoon, said that he was "depressed" about America's strategy in Iraq, commenting that as a result, "there is more terror, there is more death, there is more war. The consequences of 9/11 are far worse than the day itself." (from imdb.com) Is this not the same man who used what happened on that fateful day in 2001 to line his own pockets with some serious green?! Yes, certain movies that he directed in the past were more protest than war flicks, but for the most part, this man capitalized on a recent tragedy. He didn't exactly put that money toward the widow's fund or toward the building of a World Trade Center Memorial, did he? Basically, he is not happy with the war strategy in Iraq. He has a right to his opinion - I agree with that much. But to call out the creators of war films and say that they are exploiting war? Mr. Stone, you're exploiting the thousands of senseless deaths and tragic occurrences on September 11, 2001! That hardly qualifies you for sainthood and certainly doesn't qualify you to be a critic!
