It's official! I passed this book on the Barnes and Noble book shelves and did a complete double take. I hadn't even heard about the book's release! Troy Denning has written the next book in the Star Wars series - part one of a three-part series, Dark Nest I: The Joiner King!
The book takes place after the completion of the war against the Yuuzhan Vong (some 30 years after A New Hope). Jaina and Jacen Solo are part of a mission into the Unknown Regions to investigate a strange cry for help that can be heard only by the Jedi. Some time after the mission begins, the Jedi disappear. The Chiss are accusing the missing Jedi of getting involved in a border dispute involving the Chiss and an unknown aggressor. Luke, Han, and Leia head out to the Unknown Regions to search for their missing family members, but soon discover that an alien species is waiting for them. Adept in the force, the leader attempts to draw Jedi into his colony and join in the colony's Force-melding capabilities.
This book also includes a copy of Ylesia, an e-book that takes place during the New Jedi Order.
Be forewarned - this novel relies heavily on the New Jedi Order novel, Star by Star, so if you haven't read it, you might want to check that out first.

Star Wars: Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader by James Luceno is the sequel to Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are in hiding and Darth Vader is rising into power as the right hand of Emperor Palpatine. But although Anakin Skywalker is dead, there is something that still remains of him inside Vader. That something reminds him of all he's lost - his wife, the child she carried, his skill in the Force. Grief, anger and hatred fuel Vader in his very first mission - one that will lead to a devastating battle on Kashyyyk. The novel is 366 pages and is available in hardcover at www.sfbc.com.

Fate of the Jedi For over three decades, the Star Wars universe has been expanding. New drama, new adventures, and new revelations have played out in the pages of bestselling Star Wars novels. Now, a new nine-book series is set to begin with the March 24th publication of Outcast by Aaron Allston. It takes place almost 40 years after the end of Return of the Jedi. The classic characters of the Star Wars saga are now living legends, starring alongside a new generation of heroes in their endless struggle to bring peace to a beleaguered galaxy. This is the start of the Fate of the Jedi series. StarWars.com and Del Rey Books are making available a downloadable PDF guide that serves as an introduction to this bold new era of Star Wars storytelling for those who have never read a Star Wars novel before or just need a refresher on the current standing of the characters and worlds of the galaxy far, far away. Here's a peek: The State of the Galaxy: The Clone Wars are distant history. The Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance is a fading memory. In the four decades that followed the deaths of Darth Vader and the evil Emperor, the galaxy has known only a few scant stretches of peaceful times. The Rebel Alliance transformed from a revolutionary military force to a legitimate government — The New Republic — in a long process as it liberated worlds from the iron grip of the Empire. The Senate was restored. Luke Skywalker rebuilt the Jedi Order. Then, the Yuuzhan Vong came. A violent species of alien invaders, they destroyed entire worlds in their quest to conquer the galaxy. The New Republic teamed with the shrinking Imperial Remnant to counter this threat, and although the alien menace was defeated, the galactic government was just one of many casualties of this brutal war. From the fragments of the New Republic emerged the Galactic Alliance, but its attempt to enforce order on a war-weary galaxy proved difficult. Isolationists and independent-minded cultures like the Corellians did not bow down to Alliance rule. When the Galactic Alliance came under the draconian rule of a fallen Jedi, Jacen Solo, who adopted the Sith guise of Darth Caedus, this tinderbox exploded into the second Galactic Civil War. Violence erupted between the Alliance and a Confederation of worlds wishing independence. The Jedi Order split from the Alliance, going rogue to take down Caedus, slain by his twin sister, Jaina, the Sword of the Jedi. By the end of this latest conflict, the galactic players were once again rearranged. The Galactic Alliance is still in power, but a new Chief of State has been installed: a former Imperial, Natasi Daala. The Galactic Empire’s influence has grown, as beings everywhere see and appreciate its relative stability and order compared to the shaky years of Alliance rule. But Daala has never had great love for the Jedi, and their willingness to abandon the Galactic Alliance has given some reason to doubt their reliability or even loyalty. How exactly the Jedi will fit comfortably into this new order remains to be seen...

Imperial Commando: 501st The Clone Wars are over, but for those with reason to run from the new galactic Empire, the battle to survive has only just begun.... The Jedi have been decimated in the Great Purge, and the Republic has fallen. Now the former Republic Commandos -- the galaxy's finest special forces troops, cloned from Jango Fett -- find themselves on opposing sides and in very different armor. Some have deserted and fled to Mandalore with the mercenaries, renegade clone troopers, and rogue Jedi who make up Kal Skirata's ragtag resistance to Imperial occupation. Others -- including men from Delta and Omega squads -- now serve as Imperial Commandos, a black ops unit within Vader's own 501st Legion, tasked to hunt down fugitive Jedi and clone deserters. For Darman, grieving for his Jedi wife and separated from his son, it's an agonizing test of loyalty. But he's not the only one who'll be forced to test the ties of brotherhood. On Mandalore, clone deserters and the planet's own natives, who have no love for the Jedi, will have their most cherished beliefs challenged. In the savage new galactic order, old feuds may have to be set aside to unite against a far bigger threat, and nobody can take old loyalties for granted. Find out more in Imperial Commando: 501st, the sequel to Order 66, by bestselling author Karen Traviss. It is due out in paperback from Del Rey Books in October.

The Lost Tribe of the Sith From the starwars.com newsletter: "Hidden away from the rest of the galaxy is an isolated tribe of Sith descendents from ancient times. As Luke Skywalker follows the distant path of Jacen Solo -- blazed when Solo sought out obscure and arcane Force knowledge -- his travels stir these Sith into action. Who are they? What do they want? Readers of the Fate of the Jedi series will soon find out much more about these Sith castaways, particularly in the pages of the second book in the nine-book series, Omen, by Christie Golden. That book does not arrive in hardcover until June 23, but Del Rey Books is making available free novellas that explore the history of these Sith. The Lost Tribe of the Sith series is written by fan-favorite John Jackson Miller (the scribe behind the popular Knights of the Old Republic comics series from Dark Horse Comics). The first installment -- available now at StarWars.com -- is Precipice. The short story also includes an exclusive excerpt of Omen. Here's a description of the tale: For the ruthless Sith Order, failure is not an option. It is an offense punishable by death -- and a fate to which Commander Yaru Korsin will not succumb. But on a crucial run to deliver troops and precious crystals to a combat hotspot in the Sith's war against the Republic, Korsin and the crew of the mining ship Omen are ambushed by a Jedi starfighter. And when the Sith craft crash-lands, torn and crippled, on a desolate alien planet, the hard-bitten captain finds himself at odds with desperate survivors on the brink of mutiny -- and his own vengeful half brother, who's bent on seizing command. No matter the cost, Korsin vows that it will not be his blood and bones left behind on this unknown world. For the way of the Sith leaves little room for compromise -- and none for mercy. Uncover hidden Sith lore today by downloading Precipice in PDF or eBook format."
