What's New At G-POP.net:
Annabelle Hooper and the Ghosts of Nantucket - Melissa Minners reviews a teenage mystery adventure film set on Nantucket Island.
Excerpt: "...The Annabelle Hooper and the Ghosts of Nantucket Soundtrack begins with a whimsical upbeat sound…a happy theme with a full orchestra, plus guitars and piano. When the “ghosts” appear, the music takes on a mysterious air. Tracks like Exploring Innishail and Legend of Arthur have a note of sadness, perhaps describing the tale of the dead haunting the island. The Annabelle theme is prevalent throughout the soundtrack and I enjoyed the mix of upbeat tempo with the mystery theme..."
Devil's Mile - Melissa Minners reviews a new book about the history of the area in New York City known as The Bowery.
Excerpt: "If you have been following my writing at G-POP.net, you would know that I was an avid history buff. I think it is important to learn all you can about the past, whether it be this country’s past or another’s, as those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat its mistakes. I particularly enjoy reading about the history of the area of lived in most of my life – New York. I love reading about the history of New York City’s five boroughs and have posted a number of reviews on the subject...Perhaps that was why I was contacted to check out a new book about the history of The Bowery called Devil's Mile...."
Confirmation - Melissa Minners reviews the dramatic film based on the real life scandal involving a Supreme Court Justice nominee and a former employee.
Excerpt: "...The resulting score has a distinct political thriller feel, dramatic, with that fast-paced feeling that seems to be all about Washington. Things take on a different tone with the revelation of the Allegations Revealed, followed by the media blitz (Reporters Swarm). Anita Hill’s theme is softer at first, with an echoey feel to the woodwinds, strings and piano in Anita Visits, but when we reach Anita Speaks Out, things pick up pace a bit and get a tad louder, with some rather interesting guitar string plucks and ominous piano chords and strings."
