R&B sensation Luthor Vandross died in John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey on Friday, July 1, 2005. Cause of death was not released, but a hospital spokesperson said that Vandross had never quite recovered from the stroke he suffered two years ago.
A four-time Grammy winner, Luthor Vandross was known for his smooth, soulful voice that leant such power to R&B songs like Here and Now, Love Won't Let Me Wait, and Dance With My Father. Many thought of him as the romantic R&B singer of all time. Ask anyone what love songs should be playing in the background during a romantic evening and they would say <blah>, <blah>, <blah>, and anything by Luthor Vandross.
R.I.P. Luthor - your legacy will live on in your songs.

Luther was the man. I didn't like his music at first, but then I saw the movie The Wood and in the right setting, his music really stood out to me. I loved that movie. If This World Was Mine is just an awesome song. His tracks with Mariah Carey and Beyonce were really some of the best songs I have heard in this era. Unlike so many musicians today, you can listen to his songs over and over again and they never get old. Luther played a special role in my life, because someone I knew came over to my house and looked through my CDs and said, "What, no Luther," and so I got a Luther CD and got hooked right away. The news was hard to hear. Kind of like when Barry White died and as sad as when Aaliyah died. My co-worker cried. The friend who visited me and got me hooked on Luther was devastated. It's always sad to lose someone who played a part in the soundtrack of your life. Rest In Peace Luther.

It's an absolute shame when someone so talented has to go. Rest in Peace, Luther. We will stay behind here and have all of your great music to remember and love you by. Thank you for that.
