TOMB RAIDER
(March 6 – New York) Sony Music proudly announces the release of TOMB RAIDER (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) featuring the music of Dutch composer Tom Holkenborg, a.k.a. Junkie XL. The soundtrack will be released digitally and on CD on March 9. The movie will be released in theaters in the U.S. on March 16.
"I am really pleased that Director Roar Uthaug invited me to be part of his reimagining of Lara Croft and Tomb Raider. Lara is such a strong female protagonist and Roar and Alicia's vision for her feels very fresh, raw and human, but also really out-there. It was a joy to be given the chance to approach this score from a really edgy place,” says Holkenborg.
ABOUT TOMB RAIDER:
Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.
Leaving everything she knows behind, Lara goes in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who – against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit – must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives the perilous adventure, it could be the making of her… earning her the name of tomb raider.
From Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures, Tomb Raider is the story that will set a young and resolute Lara Croft on a path toward becoming a global hero. The film stars Oscar® winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) in the lead role, under the direction of Roar Uthaug (The Wave). Oscar®-winner Graham King (The Departed) produced under his GK Films banner. Tomb Raider also stars Dominic West (Money Monster, 300), Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained), Daniel Wu (AMC’s Into the Badlands) and Oscar® nominee Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient). Uthaug directed from a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons, story by Evan Daugherty and Robertson-Dworet. The executive producers are Patrick McCormick, Denis O’Sullivan and Noah Hughes.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures (MGM) present a Square Enix production, a GK Films production, “Tomb Raider.” Opening in conventional theaters and IMAX, the film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures. www.tombraidermovie.com
ABOUT TOM HOLKENBORG:
Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, is a Grammy® nominated and multi-platinum producer, musician, and composer whose versatility puts him on the cutting edge of contemporary music, as well at the vanguard of exciting new film composers. His film scoring credits include Mad Max Fury Road, Deadpool, Black Mass, Divergent, Brimstone, The Dark Tower and the forthcoming Tomb Raider origins story.
Tom is able to draw on his extensive knowledge of classical forms and structures while keeping one finger planted firmly on the pulse of popular music. When this eclectic background is paired with his skill as a multi-instrumentalist (he plays keyboards, guitar, drums, violin, and bass and describes himself as a ‘full contact composer’) and a mastery of studio technology, a portrait emerges of an artist for whom anything is possible.
The foundation for Tom’s career started in his native Holland where he created multiple film scores, and undertook mentorships with celebrated composers Harry Gregson-Williams (on Domino and Kingdom of Heaven) and Klaus Badelt (on Catwoman). But things really started to fall into place when Tom started collaborating with Oscar®-winning composer Hans Zimmer. Their partnership lasted several years, and most recently included 2016’s blockbuster Batman vs Superman, which marked the seventh scoring collaboration between Holkenborg and Zimmer. Holkenborg worked with Zimmer on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), Man of Steel (2013), Dark Knight Rises (2012), Madagascar 3 (2012), Megamind (2010), and Inception (2010).
Holkenborg’s music career began in 1993 when he started the industrial rock band Nerv and was also producing hardcore and metal bands like Sepultura and Fear Factory. Drawn by electronic breakbeats he started Junkie XL in 1997 debuting with the album Saturday Teenage Kick. Holkenborg went on to produce five more albums under the moniker while playing headline shows all over the world. In 2002 the producer remixer scored a number 1 hit in 24 countries with his rework of A Little Less Conversation. Following the success, Holkenborg collaborated with celebrated artists like Dave Gahan, Robert Smith, Chuck D, and remixed artists such as Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and many more. In addition Holkenborg created the music for video games like FIFA, Need For Speed, The Sims, and SSX and commercials for global campaigns such as Nike, Heineken, Adidas, Cadillac and VISA.
Throughout his career, education and mentorship have been key themes for Tom. He created a Bachelor Program at the renowned ArtEZ Conservatorium, in his home town of Enschede, for music composition, from which more than 200 students have graduated, and continued his commitment to education on digital platforms, producing the online tutorial series, Studio Time.
Tom says about the soundtrack: “We spend a lot of time on the ‘island‘ in the movie. It is otherworldly and wild, and I wanted to get people out of their comfort zones with some eerie crescendo moments. I spent months having custom pacific drums built, which I played myself to create insane adrenaline inducing rhythms. I also distorted our orchestral recordings, which yielded some unsettling qualities within the score. I want to thank Director Roar Uthaug for letting me push the envelope on this project. It was a lot of fun."
TOMB RAIDER (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) track list:
1. Return to Croft Manor 2. Seeking Endurance 3. The Bag 4. Path of Paternal Secrets 5. The Devil's Sea 6. Let Yamatai Have Her 7. Figure in the Night 8. Remember This 9. Never Give Up 10. Karakuri Wall 11. What Lies Underneath Yamatai 12. There's No Time 13. Becoming the Tomb Raider 14. The Croft Legacy

MANHUNT: UNABOMBER TO BE RELEASED
(November 30, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA) –Discovery Channel will release the Manhunt: UNABOMBER – Original Series Soundtrack on December 15th. The soundtrack features original music by composer Gregory Tripi (Rememory, The Knick additional music).
“When [director] Greg Yaitanes and I began discussing the music for Manhunt, there wasn’t any temp track or decisions made other than going in an electronic direction,” explained Tripi. “Greg had been a big fan of the music that Cliff Martinez and I did for The Knick, so he and the music supervisor, PJ Bloom, approached me about doing the show.”
Manhunt: UNABOMBER tells the dramatic and gripping true story of the FBI's hunt for the Unabomber, the deadliest serial bomber in history. The story focuses on FBI Agent and Criminal Profiler Jim "Fitz" Fitzgerald (played by Sam Worthington of Avatar and Hacksaw Ridge), who pioneered the use of forensic linguistics to identify and ultimately capture the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski (Paul Bettany, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers series and A Beautiful Mind). This series features both Bettany and Worthington's first major leading roles on U.S. television.
As a fresh faced Criminal Profiler and the newest member of the Unabom Task Force (UTF), Fitz faced an uphill battle not just against the Unabomber - one of the most sophisticated and brilliant criminals in history - but also against the bureaucracy of the UTF itself as his maverick ideas and new approaches were dismissed by the system.
“The face-to-face meetings between Sam Worthington and Paul Bettany (FBI agent Fitz and The Unabomber) had an interesting dynamic -- something that almost felt like a call and response. It leant itself to a music gesture, which came out very naturally,” said Tripi. “That thematic element made it’s way in and out of several cues through the season.”
In addition to the Fitz/Unabomber theme, Tripi wrote a theme for an unusual character. “I had an idea about making The Unabomber’s Manifesto into a character by giving it a theme,” he explained. One of Tripi’s pieces became the recurring ‘end-title’ track for the series. “Greg Yaitanes came up with the idea of re-using this particular piece of music as the ending of each episode. It’s a disturbing swell of sound and pulses, and really ends each show with a rush of tension. It got better with each episode, really becoming part of the personality of the show.”
Gregory Tripi is an award-winning composer based out of Los Angeles, and owner of eSonic Productions. His music has been heard in several top Hollywood motion pictures and television series, including Dark Places, The Knick, Drive, Contagion, Drag Me To Hell, and the videos games Twisted Metal and Far Cry 4. In addition to Manhunt: UNABOMBER, his recent projects include Rememory.
Gregory’s compositions have been featured in national advertisements by Adidas, Lincoln Motor, Ghost House Pictures, The Coca-Cola Company, and many more. His music has been awarded the Georges Delerue Film Scoring Award and the Thomas Dolby Production Award, and his scores have been heard in Academy Award® and Emmy Award® winning films. Gregory is a recipient of the BMI Pete Carpenter Fellowship, and The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Music Fellowship.

24 Hours to Live – Motion Picture Soundtrack
(December 20, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande will release the 24 Hours to Live – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on December 29, 2017 and on CD January 19, 2018. The album features original music composed by Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, John Wick). Marilyn Manson’s "God's Going to Cut You Down," is a traditional hymn previously popularized by Johnny Cash and Odetta, is a special album-only bonus track.
Bates is currently a member of Marilyn Manson's touring band and produced Manson’s last two albums. “Manson and I were putting the finishing touches to his album ‘Heaven Upside Down’, when the director Brian Smrz asked me if we would possibly cover the song ["God's Going to Cut You Down"] for the end credits,” said Bates. “Manson & I were already very familiar with the song, and there was a version placed temporarily in the end credits that we didn't like, so we just did our own thing. We found a tempo that felt good, threw up a ‘four on the floor’ 808 kick drum, and worked out an arrangement with acoustic guitar and his vocal. I added talk box, melodica, bass, electric guitar, and ambient noise over the course of one late-night session!”
24 Hours to Live is a fast-paced action-packed movie about a career assassin (Ethan Hawke) who is given a chance at redemption after his employer brings him back to life temporarily after being killed on the job.
Bringing focus to the core precepts of the film, composer Bates explained, “Loss, love, and retribution, are strong emotional motives that drive our main character to take extraordinary measures to carry out his mission in the most extreme capacity, so it was important that the score to be imbued with those emotions.”
Bates also brought in some ethnic musical elements to the score. “We subtly alluded to South Africa, (where the film primarily takes place), with some ethnic instrumentation in the percussion, and a couple prominent solo vocal moments.” To achieve these effects, “Rafe Pearlman sang solo vocals. I played acoustic and electric guitars and Guitar Viol. And there was plenty of interesting percussion instruments used throughout, including Kalimba, Hammered Dulcimer, Udu, singing bowls, and many clay pots for tonal centering of the percussion.”
Varèse Sarabande will release the 24 Hours to Live – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on December 29, 2017 and on CD January 19, 2018.
ABOUT TYLER BATES
Composer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Bates work resonates deeply throughout film, television, video games, and pop culture at large—from critically acclaimed blockbusters such as JOHN WICK and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY to WGN’s SALEM and Zack Snyder’s groundbreaking 300. An adept and versatile music mind, he develops a distinct sonic palette for each project that is reflective of the director’s unique brand of story-telling and emotion, whether it be sweeping epic grandeur or sheer terror.
In 2004, after a decade of writing film music, he scored Zack Snyder’s reimagining of DAWN OF THE DEAD written by James Gunn, igniting longstanding relationships with both. His soundtrack for Snyder’s 300 quickly became one biggest selling score albums of the 21st Century. 300 was followed by further collaborations with the filmmaker such as WATCHMEN and SUCKER PUNCH. A partnership with Gunn evolved from the 2006 cult favorite SLITHER and led to SUPER and Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, which became the third highest-grossing film of 2014 worldwide. Throughout Bates’ career he has worked with iconic and influential filmmakers, including Academy Award® winner William Friedkin on KILLER JOE and Rob Zombie on THE DEVIL’S REJECTS, HALLOWEEN, and HALLOWEEN II.
His imprint on the gaming world is apparent in his music for KILLZONE SHADOW FALL, GOD OF WAR: ASCENSION, ARMY OF TWO 40TH DAY, and more. Bates’ work in TV spans a wide range of styles from Showtime’s CALIFORNICATION to Audience Network’s highly popular KINGDOM. An on-camera performance for CALIFORNICATION is where Bates met Marilyn Manson, kicking off another focused and fiery creative alliance. Tyler Bates co-wrote and produced Manson’s THE PALE EMPEROR, which bowed at #6 on the Billboard Top 200 and Rolling Stone proclaimed, “#1 Metal Album of 2015.”“Cupid Carries a Gun” became the main title theme for WGN’s hit series, SALEM, while “Killing Strangers” figured prominently in Keanu Reeves’ John Wick. He also held down lead guitar duties on Manson’s Hell Not Hallelujah Tourand his 2016 arena tour, playing to a half-million fans alongside metal giants Slipknot.
Beyond co-creating Manson’s forthcoming SAY10, 2017 sees Tyler’s scores for Charlize Theron’s THE COLDEST CITY, JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO, co-composed with longtime friend Joel Richard, the Gunn-penned and -produced THE BELKO EXPERIMENT directed by Greg McLean, and the mega-anticipated GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, directed by James Gunn. Ultimately, Tyler Bates’ natural ability to connect with his collaborators yields music that not only becomes part of the film and television zeitgeist, but that resonates with authenticity to audiences around the globe.

The Long Road Home – Original Limited Series Score
(January 10, 2018 – Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande will release The Long ROAD HOme – Original Limited Series Score digitally on January 12, 2018 and a limited edition CD is available beginning today directly at www.varesesarabande.com. The album features original music composed by Emmy®-Award winning composer Jeff Beal (BOSTON, House of Cards).
On April 4, 2004, the First Cavalry Division from Fort Hood was ferociously ambushed in Sadr City, Baghdad-- a day that later came to be known as "Black Sunday." Based on Martha Raddatz’s best-selling book, The Long Road Home chronicles their heroic fight for survival, as well as their families' agonizing wait on the home front back in Texas.
Jeff Beal was clear on the importance of The Long Road Home. “When you do a story about real people you really want to get it right,” he said. “Film music is the language of the emotional journey that a character goes through. One of the things that I love about this series, is that it is not just a combat movie or about an ambush, it is about the soldiers’ lives. Each hour you learn about them, their wives, their kids. And unfortunately some of these guys don’t come back. It is great chance for us to see the level of sacrifice as well as the dignity and bravery these people have. This is their job and what they have to do is pretty amazing.”
Jeff Beal’s film music career began to take off with his work on the acclaimed film POLLOCK (2000). Beal writes, orchestrates, conducts, mixes and often performs on his own scores – no other artist’s brushstrokes touch his canvas. As an accomplished jazz musician, Beal uses his improvisation skills to read the emotional tone of a scene and compose music on the spot. “This process allows me to set up a world where anything can happen, but you don’t see it coming.”
A five-time EMMY® winner, Beal’s approach is a favorite for more sophisticated works. His TV credits include HBO’s ROME, CARNIVÀLE and the Netflix series HOUSE OF CARDS. His documentary work includes BLACKFISH, WEINER, THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES, AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER, Oliver Stone’s THE PUTIN INTERVIEWS, and BOSTON the recently released documentary about the history of the Boston Marathon. Jeff’s upcoming film projects include SHOCK AND AWE (directed by Rob Reiner).
Recently, Jeff’s performing, conducting, and composing worlds have begun converging. He conducted The National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in the premiere of HOUSE OF CARDS IN CONCERT (represented by Columbia Artists Management), with further performances in Miami, The Netherlands, and Denmark. He also led the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra for the premiere of BLACKFISH live-to-picture and conducted the Boston Pops Orchestra live for the premiere of BOSTON. In May several of his pieces were performed including “The Salvage Men” by The Apollo Chorus (Chicago), the Brooklyn Youth Chorus premiering his piece “The Fire Brand” at BAM, and Oregon Ballet Theatre premiering the ballet Terra, choreographed by Helen Pickett.
“This is a really intense piece of filmmaking,” said Beal. “That is what I love about being an artist. You want to feel something. The themes in THE LONG ROAD HOME are about brotherhood, community, and loyalty- things we all should celebrate. We need them now more then ever.”
National Geographic presents THE LONG ROAD HOME. Varèse Sarabande will release The Long ROAD HOme – Original Limited Series Score digitally on January 12, 2018.

Hangman – ORIGINAL Motion Picture Soundtrack
(January 11, 2018 – Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande will release the HANGMAN – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD January 26, 2018. The album features the original music composed by Frederik Wiedmann (ALL HAIL KING JULIEN, ACTS OF VENGEANCE).
Decorated homicide detective Ray Archer (Al Pacino) partners with criminal profiler Will Ruiney (Karl Urban) to catch one of the city's notoriously vicious serial killers, who is playing a twisted version of murder using the child's game... HANGMAN, while journalist Christi Davies (Brittany Snow) reports on the crime spree, shadowing the detectives.
“When I read the script I immediately had a sense of what this film will have to feel like,” Wiedmann described. Rather than gearing towards more traditional horror tropes, “we made the determination that we have a much stronger emotional component – a rather tragic backstory of our two detectives - that the score couldn’t ignore.”
In addition to a standard orchestral palette, “I did however use fair amount of solo cello, haunting solo vocals (by Ayana Haviv), and a heavy set of sound design/electronic elements, for a more modern sound,” Wiedmann explained. He wrote themes for the characters, including one especially for The Hangman. “Our detectives chase a serial killer that works in a specific pattern - making it impossible for the detectives to be a step ahead of him. Every time they see him at the crime scene, he smiles and gets away. I tried to create something musically that underlines his smirk, his superiority. We ended up with a live-recorded soundbite of me laughing (kind of a mad laugh if you will), which we then distorted heavily and added other creepy elements to. This way, The Hangman was literally ‘laughing’ at the detectives inability to catch him.”
Emmy® Award-winning composer Frederik Wiedmann has compiled an interesting and varied résumé, with over 90 titles to his name encompassing all genres of film and television. Wiedmann is currently composing the music for two animated series (ALL HAIL KING JULIEN, MISSION FORCE ONE), has become a mainstay in the DC animated universe, and continues to score dramatic feature films.
In 2007 Wiedmann scored his first feature RETURN TO HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (produced by Joel Silver) and in the ten years since, his résumé includes horror films like THE HILLS RUN RED, HOSTEL PART III, MIRRORS II, THE DAMNED and INTRUDERS. His dramatic work can be heard in the epic civil war drama FIELD OF LOST SHOES (directed by Sean McNamara) and Paul Schrader’s recent feature DYING OF THE LIGHT (starring Nicolas Cage and Anton Yelchin).
Twice Wiedmann has collaborated with DC mastermind Bruce Timm, first on GREEN LANTERN - THE ANIMATED SERIES (which earned him 2 consecutive Annie nominations) and later with his twisted take on Batman, Superman and Wonder Women in JUSTICE LEAGUE - GODS AND MONSTERS. He has also composed the music for DC Animation’s made-for-DVD movies JUSTICE LEAGUE - THE FLASHPOINT PARADOX, SON OF BATMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE - THRONE OF ATLANTIS, and WB’s latest Batman TV Series BEWARE THE BATMAN.
In 2016 Wiedmann earned his first Emmy Award for “Outstanding Original Song” (with lyricist Mitch Watson) on the song “True Bromance” for the Dreamworks Animations series ALL HAIL KING JULIEN. Wiedmann’s recent credits include the German TV mini-series DUELL DER BRÜEDER and the documentary short film SPECTRUM: A STORY OF THE MIND.
Varèse Sarabande will release THE HANGMAN – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on January 26, 2018

THE RITUAL - ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK
(February 6, 2018– Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release THE RITUAL – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on February 9, 2018. The album features original music by composer Ben Lovett (SYNCHRONICITY, AMERICAN FOLK).
“It’s really a story about a guy losing friends, and how our relationship dynamics with them change as we get older and become different people,” said Lovett. “We open with a character suffering a moment of weakness that has disastrous consequences, and explore his struggle to reconcile the level of responsibility he may have had in the outcome. That’s what I was drawn to initially, the film within the movie.”
Reuniting after the tragic death of their friend, four college pals set out to hike through the Scandinavian wilderness. A wrong turn leads them into the mysterious forests of Norse legend, where an ancient evil exists and stalks them at every turn.
“I knew the score needed to help establish the presence of ‘something else’ out there in the woods, long before you see anything menacing onscreen we wanted to create an impression of that inevitable obstacle, a kind of malevolent awareness out there lurking around,” Lovett described.
Ben Lovett debuted at Sundance in 2007 as composer for THE SIGNAL — an Independent Spirit Award nominee and enduring cult favorite. In the decade that’s followed Lovett has created original scores for a wide range of unique films including the Duplass Brothers’ thriller BLACK ROCK; critic favorite and Gotham-Award nominee SUN DON’T SHINE from director Amy Seimetz; and the sci-fi noir SYNCHRONICITY which earned Ben a nomination at the prestigious 2016 World Soundtrack Awards. Lovett recently completed original scores for the films AMERICAN FOLK (Good Deed Entertainment), NIGHT SKY (Pop Films), and TOMMY — an ESPN “30 for 30” documentary on the late American boxing champion Tommy Morrison.
THE RITUAL reunites Lovett with director David Bruckner, whom he last collaborated with on THE SIGNAL. “It was interesting going into a story about old friends with an old friend,” said Lovett. The two have a 20 year history doing experimental indie films together.
“Ben likes to say ‘I speak Bruckner.’ Which I think is one of the reasons he got the job – when he said that it really put the producers at ease. They thought maybe this guy can actually decode what Dave’s talking about,” Bruckner joked. “One of the reasons I really love working with Ben is I trust his aesthetic. I trust him as a storyteller. He brings a comprehensive perspective to the table on what it is we’re trying to create.”
Lovett calls THE RITUAL his most challenging film project to date, as the composer was required to relocate to London and create the score from beginning to end with no familiar collaborators at hand. A serendipitous turn of events brought Ben together with the esteemed London Contemporary Orchestra. “Working with the LCO was like being given the power to invent new colors, they really push the boundaries of their instruments and expanded the scope of what I could accomplish on this score,” Lovett explained.
“I wanted the tragedy that sets the film in motion to follow our characters into the forest,” Lovett continued. “The motif related to that initial incident is the only area of the score where I used synths instead of the orchestra — it was simply an effective way to separate the emotional story going on within the characters from everything happening around them in the physical environment of the woods.”
THE RITUAL, from The Imaginarium and eOne Films will be available everywhere on Netflix, excluding UK and Latin America, on February 9, 2018. Lakeshore Records will release THE RITUAL – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally the same day.

ALTERED CARBON - ORIGINAL NETFLIX SERIES SOUNDTRACK
(February 8, 2018 – Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release ALTERED CARBON - Original Netflix Series Soundtrack digitally February 9, 2018. The album features original music by Composer Jeff Russo (STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, FARGO). In addition to the original score, the album includes three songs including a cover of the Johnny Cash standard “Ain’t No Grave” performed by ALTERED CARBON star Renée Elise Goldsberry (Quellcrist Falconer) and Sune Rose Wagner’s performance of White Zombie’s “More Human Than Human”.
When asked about how he crafted the score for this unique futuristic universe, composer Russo said, “We wanted to play the emotional undercurrent of the story so we decided not to be too on the nose as far as the sci-fi aspect. In ALTERED CARBON, human bodies are interchangeable. So in this story, the idea of playing the core of a person becomes very important. I wanted to make sure to create thematic motifs that could be used to keep track of who was who in the ever-changing landscape of the story.”
Based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. In Netflix’s ALTERED CARBON, Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is the lone surviving soldier in a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned – on ice – for centuries until Laurens Bancroft, an impossibly wealthy, long-lived man, offers Kovacs the chance to live again. In exchange, Kovacs has to solve a murder … that of Bancroft himself.
“The first scene I scored was when Kovacs is brought back to life,” Russo explained. “It seemed appropriate to first work on the scene in which our main character is reborn into the body he would occupy for the series. That also allowed me to showcase the threading of voices throughout the score that would become its cornerstone sound.”

ANNIHILATION
February 15, 2018 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Lakeshore Records and Invada Records will co-release Annihilation—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, featuring a score by Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow, worldwide. The composing partners have once again joined forces with writer and director Alex Garland (28 Days Later), for the filmmaker’s upcoming film from Paramount Pictures and Skydance, starring Natalie Portman and produced by Scott Rudin, Andrew MacDonald, Allon Reich, and Eli Bush. Their score for Garland’s Oscar nominated Ex Machina gained two World Soundtrack Awards nominations and was the 2016 Ivor Novello Award Winner for Best Original Score. The soundtrack will be released digitally in North America by Lakeshore Records and in the UK/Europe by Invada Records February 23 with CD and vinyl editions forthcoming. Paramount Pictures will release the film in U.S. on February 23 and on Netflix outside the U.S. from March 12.
From visionary writer and director Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later) and based on the acclaimed best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation stars Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez and Tuva Novotny. Portman plays Lena, a biologist and former soldier, that joins a mission to uncover what happened to her husband inside Area X - a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline. Once inside, the expedition discovers a world of mutated landscape and creatures, as dangerous as it is beautiful, that threatens both their lives and their sanity.
Garland remarks that Salisbury and Barrow’s partnership “sets an incredibly high bar of creative skill and integrity, with music that is brilliant, unique and truly cinematic.”
Salisbury and Barrow note: “After our experience on Ex Machina, we obviously jumped at the chance to work on a new Alex Garland film, and it was very exciting, as right from the outset we could see that we were going to have to use a wider musical pallet than we did on Ex Machina, and operate on a bigger and broader scale.”

GAME NIGHT
(February 15, 2018 – Los Angeles, CA) – WaterTower Music will release the GAME NIGHT – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD on February 16th. The album features original music by acclaimed musician and composer Cliff Martinez (The Foreigner, Drive).
“This score may have been the biggest musical challenge of my career,” said Martinez. “When it comes to comedy, I doubt I’m at the top of most directors’ short list. I’m the guy you call when the film’s characters are doing drugs, getting shot, stabbed, beaten or blown up –unless of course, those things are supposed to be funny.”
In this case, they certainly are. GAME NIGHT is a comedy that takes a fresh and unexpected approach, so Martinez was an inspired choice – with a composing career boasting films that are often dark, psychological stories, and longstanding relationships with Steven Soderbergh and Nicolas Winding Refn on films and TV series such as The Knick, Drive, The Neon Demon, and Solaris.
Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the action comedy GAME NIGHT, in theaters nationwide on February 23, stars Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams as Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks, arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. So, when Brooks gets kidnapped, it’s all part of the game…right? But as the six uber-competitive gamers set out to solve the case and win, they begin to discover that neither this game—nor Brooks—are what they seem to be. Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves increasingly in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn. With no rules, no points, and no idea who all the players are, this could turn out to be the most fun they’ve ever had…or, it’s game over.
“The first thing that the directors said to me was, ‘Don’t try to be funny. That’s our job. Just be yourself,’” Martinez joked.
Perhaps it is because of his time in the punk scene as a drummer for bands including the Weirdos, Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Dickies that Cliff Martinez’s approach to scoring is nontraditional. His scores tend towards the stark and sparse, utilizing a modern tonal palette to paint the backdrop for films that are often dark, psychological stories like Pump Up the Volume (1990), The Limey (2009) Wonderland (2003), Wicker Park (2004), and Drive (2011). Martinez was nominated for a Grammy Award for Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic, a Cesar Award for Xavier Giannoli’s A L’origine, and a Broadcast Film Critics Award for Drive). His score for The Neon Demon was awarded Best Soundtrack at the 2016 Cannes International Film Festival.
Still the drummer at heart, Martinez’s use of audio manipulations, particularly for percussive sounds, has been evolving through the years and is evident by the hammered dulcimer of Kafka (1991), the gray-areas between sound design and score for Traffic (2000), the steel drums and textures of Solaris (2002), what Martinez called “rhythmi-tizing pitched, ambient textures” of Narc (2002), and “using percussion performances to trigger and shape the rhythmic and tonal characteristics of those ambient textures,” as he described his score for 2011’s The Lincoln Lawyer. Martinez’s longstanding relationship with director Steven Soderbergh began with 1989’s sex, lies, and videotape and has produced ten theatrical film releases, including Kafka, The Limey, Traffic, Solaris, and Contagion, and the critically acclaimed TV series The Knick.
Martinez’s films also include Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon and Only God Forgives, Robert Redford’s The Company You Keep, Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers (co-composed with Skrillex), and Martin Campbell’s The Foreigner. His upcoming projects include Too Old To Die Young – Refn’s new series for Amazon.
Cliff Martinez was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012 with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He earned the prestigious Richard Kirk Lifetime Achievement award from BMI in 2013.
WaterTower Music presents The GAME NIGHT – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, available on February 16, 2018.
GAME NIGHT, in theaters February 23, stars Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Billy Magnussen, Sharon Horgan, Lamorne Morris, Kylie Bunbury, Jesse Plemons, Danny Huston, Chelsea Peretti, with Michael D. Hall and Kyle Chandler. Directed by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein, the film was written by Mark Perez, and produced by John Davis, Jason Bateman, John Fox, and James Garavente. Executive producers were Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener, Michael Disco, Dave Neustadter and Marc S. Fisher. The director of photography was Barry Peterson; production designer, Michael Corenblith; editors, Jamie Gross, Gregory Plotkin and David Egan. THE WORTHY - ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK
(February 19, 2018– Los Angeles, CA) – void recordings will release The Worthy – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on February 23, 2018. The album features original music by composer Joseph Bishara (Insidious 1-4, The Conjuring 1&2).
The post-apocalyptic thriller The Worthy was one of the largest Arabic genre film productions in the Middle East, served by an evocative score combining electronic elements with organic grit and a percussive push. The devastation on display is also reflected in emotionally wrenching string writing, channeling loss and hope along with the sense of doom in this dark vision of one possible future.
“Going into this it was clear that Ali (Mostafa, director) didn’t want a necessarily Middle Eastern sound though the film is of the region,” said Bishara. “He described it as taking place in a world after extremism, a relatable and possibly devastating scenario.”
For a movie that offers a dark future, composer Joseph Bishara seemed a perfect choice. Bishara is composer and music producer who tends towards a darker flavor; the highest grossing horror composer of the last decade with films surpassing the billion-dollar box office mark.
“Thematically the film deals with personalities that emerge through orchestrated chaos, and how various types handle danger and adversity,” Bishara explained. “There is a clear path for the hero to rise out of the situation, and his musical journey was worked backwards starting with the final scene, then deconstructing into the earlier setup.”
Beginning his career as guitarist and keyboardist for the L.A. industrial metal band Drown, Joseph Bishara segued to soundtrack work on Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Heavy Metal 2000, and John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars. Since that time, he has scored films including The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle, The Other Side of the Door, The Worthy and many others, often appearing onscreen as creature performers in these films.
Perhaps best known for his work on the horror franchise Insidious, Bishara earned the Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Score on the film. He has since composed the music for its sequels Insidious Chapter 2, Insidious Chapter 3 and Insidious: The Last Key. His upcoming projects also include writing the music for the film The Children and “production work on a Tech N9ne collaboration titled “Brightfall", due to be released in March off the album “Planet".

The Strangers: Prey At Night
(March 7, 2018 – Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande will release THE STRANGERS: Prey at Night – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on March 23 and on CD April 13, 2018. The album features original music composed by Adrian Johnston (Becoming Jane, Brideshead Revisited).
The Strangers: Prey At Night is a reboot of Bryan Bertino’s 2008 cult classic The Strangers. The movie stars Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson and Bailee Madison. A road trip to visit relatives takes a dangerous turn when a family arrives at a secluded mobile home park that's mysteriously deserted -- until three masked psychopaths show up.
“I had an idea that once we reach Gatlin Lake, just as the strangers are tuning into radio pop from yesteryear, so too should the scoring sensibilities get occasionally dialed across the decades,” said composer Johnston. “I also wanted to treat it as much as possible as a live event, but also incorporating certain ‘musique concrete’ techniques, reverse tape, loops, cut ups etc.”
Adrian Johnston’s film career began after he became known for live multi-instrumental performances of his new scores for classic silent movies across Europe and USA. His first feature commission was Jude in 1996. Other film credits include Becoming Jane and Kinky Boots.
Johnston thought out of the box in recording the music for THE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT. “The recording sessions took place at night in an incredibly atmospheric (deconsecrated) chapel, centuries old,” he described. “I projected the film onto a 30-foot high paper screen and improvised to picture, mixing acoustic instruments, vintage synths and organs. There were no nearby neighbors to disturb so I was able to get the entire building thrumming with the cacophony.”
In addition to Johnston’s score, the soundtrack features classic tracks by Kim Wilde, Bonnie Tyler, and Air Supply.
