Okay, maybe this should be in the music thread. Who knows?
So, who's been watching the auditions for the show this year? I think there are some intersting picks. I also think that there are some rather strange people that try out for this thing. And did you hear about GLAAD's issue with the show?
From IMDB.com:
"Bosses at America's leading gay rights group are demanding a summit meeting with the producers of TV talent show American Idol after claiming the program is "increasingly homophobic." Officials at the Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) were appalled by homophobic remarks made by judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson on the first show of the new season, which aired in America on Tuesday. On the program, Brit Cowell told one effeminate wannabe to "shave off your beard and wear a dress," while Jackson asked another audition hopeful, "Are you a girl?" Both contestants were rejected. Now GLAAD bosses are fighting back, demanding an audience with Idol bosses. A spokesman tells entertainment news website TMZ.com, "GLAAD is reaching out to the show's producers to discuss our concerns and the concerns of community members and allies, who have contacted us about this matter."
What are your thoughts about this season's American Idol?

I think its as good as it has been. As far as inflamatory remarks are concerned that is what the show is known for, so if you don't have thick skin maybe you should have auditioned for someone else who would not trash your appearance or your talent.
Not to add fuel to the GLAAD fire but the one person in question who they were asking whether the person was a male or female, I couldn't tell myself, so I don't have a problem with them asking that question. I am also of the opinion that if that person did not want that reaction from the judges maybe they should have chosen a more appropriate wardrobe as to not draw additional critisim to themselves, unless that was this persons intention in order to receive his/her 15 minutes of fame.
Lets face it folks there are several and I am gonna use the word, freaks, not to say that if you are different you are a freak, but when you come in looking like a character person at a theme park, hello, you asked for the remarks and you got them. Sorry I have no smypathy, if you want to be taken seriously about yourself and your talent, then don't come to an audition looking like Marilyn Manson just rolled out of bed.

I watched the women sing last night and I have to say that there was little competition there. Only one or two of the women seem to really stand out.

American Idol this year is very interesting. I was flat out shocked at some of the eliminations and shocked that some people lasted a lot longer than they should have, but the end is hot. I mean, Jordin Sparks is amazing. She is such a powerhouse singer at such a young age and considering her age, she could be the most marketable, considering how the music industry shifts to a younger sect. I worry that while Melinda would also deserve to win, there would be nothing for her out there in terms of mainstream music. She has an old soul. I can't see her singing songs that would appeal to a mass audience. Lakisha is garbage. She cannot hang and would be the Ruben Studdard of American Idol should she win. Full of talent, but not enough heart. Blake is probably the most marketable singer of the four, because he is so versatile with his music, but can I ask something...why is it so shocking that he does bebop. It's an artform as old as Hip Hop...like 30 years old...and Justin Timberlake has been doing it for years. It's not really anything to go crazy about...unless you would go just as crazy hearing a black person do it...which if you really listen to music...not just mainstream...you would know it is still being done. That's the only nagging thing about music these days. People need to pay attention. Phenomenons are not really phenomenons. They just happen to find a way to get it out there over someone more talented who just can't catch a break. Sad
