Every week, G-POP.net strives to bring you a variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week:
V for Vendetta - Ismael Manzano reviews the movie V for Vendetta, starring Hugo Weaving, Natalie Portman, and John Hurt/
Excerpt: "I first saw a preview for V for Vendetta--the adaptation of a popular D.C. Vertigo graphic novel--while watching Underworld: Evolution in the theater, right after a preview for Ultraviolet. My wife was enthralled with the visuals of Ultraviolet while I was fascinated with the possibility of V. "It looks like it could be a good movie, if you can get over the guy in the French barmaid mask," were my exact words. And this was before I knew that the Wachowski brothers and Hugo Weaving were involved. All I knew was that Natalie Portman was starring, and that was good enough for me. So I made a deal to suffer through Ultraviolet, in exchange for going to see V. And as bad as Ultraviolet was, it was worth the tradeoff."
Jenny Beck - A Rising Star Feature Article by Melissa Minners.
Excerpt: "Determination and ambition keep Jenny Beck going when many others would have given up. A belief in her talent and a passion for her music pushes her onward when others have failed. Where the obstacles and hardships of a career in the music industry have made others bitter, Jenny Beck continues to be a kind and generous soul with a happy spirit that is infectious to all that speak with her. Her fandom continues to grow and her music continues to be played via internet and FM radio stations around the world. The word is spreading about a talented artist whose vocals are captivating, whose music is alive, and whose lyrics have the power to touch the hardest of hearts. That talent is Jenny Beck, a rising star."
Why You Shouldn't Care About Brangelina's Baby - A rant about all the press surrounding Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's baby and why you shouldn't care by Justine Manzano.
Excerpt: "So, as you all must know, unless you've been in a coma for the last few months (If you have, sorry!), Angelina Jolie is pregnant with Brad Pitt's baby. I'm writing this to say that you, the reader should not care. You also shouldn't care about who Paris is making a sex ta—I mean, dating, today, nor should you care about who is gay in Hollywood. Now, we all listen to this stuff and nobody is saying you should close your ears to it entirely—it's entertaining to see that those that are doing better than you are also capable of completely screwing up their lives. We all do it. It's when people begin to take it personally that I begin to get a bit fed up."
The Producers - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack of the musical motion picture by Mel Brooks.
Excerpt: "Mel Brooks, master of comedy and satire, first introduced The Producers in movie format in 1968. The movie won an Oscar. Years later, Brooks banked off of that success, creating a Broadway musical based on the movie. It went on to win 12 Tony awards. But Mel Brooks didn't stop there. He took his musical to the big screen, bringing many of the Tony-award winning actors with him to reprise their roles in The Producers: The Musical. Nathan Lane stars as Max Bialystock, a has-been theatrical producer who conspires with accountant Leo Bloom (played by Matthew Broderick) to intentionally produce a Broadway flop in order to rob investors out of millions of dollars."
Otaku Unite! - Jon Minners reviews the Anime Documentary by Eric Bresler.
Excerpt: "There are fans and then there are those who take their love for something one step too far. I would be considered a fan of wrestling, a fan of basketball, a fan of Star Wars, a fan of Star Trek, a fan of video games and a fan of anime and manga. I watch wrestling, which is the closest thing I guess you would call my obsession; I enjoy a good basketball game, as well as any film dealing with the subject; I have all the Star Wars DVDs and the entire seven-season run of Star Trek: The Next Generation, I have an X-Box and a PS 2 and I have an extensive anime and manga collection that consists of Golgo 13, PatLabor, Ninja Scroll, Armored Trooper Votoms and Battle Royale, Tag – You're It!, Dragon Head and Juror 13. However, I have never painted my body to enjoy a basketball game or wrestling match, I didn't wait in line for an X Box 360 and still do not have one and I do not dress like my favorite characters from anime. That would be just strange and yet this DVD tells the tale of those who enjoy things just a little more than I do."
Finity's End - Melissa Minners reviews the sci-fi novel by C.J. Cherryh.
Excerpt: "War raged throughout the universe and a merchanter / military ship Finity's End fought in the heart of it all and emerged victorious. However, the victory was not without some loss. Finity's End is a family run ship and many family members were lost during the fighting. One such member was lost in an effort to keep herself and her baby safe. Unable to cope with being left behind on Pell Station while the family continued their war against Mazian, Francine Neihardt delved into the dangerous world of drugs and slowly deteriorated, dying of an overdose and leaving her four-year-old son Fletcher Niehardt to a life of despair and loss.
Badseed's Bottomline is all new - The Road to Wrestlemania Begins: "Hey yo! So, I was watching Saturday Night's Main Event the other night and I was highly disappointed. The Road to Wrestlemania has begun, actually, it began awhile ago and the WWE has really done nothing to excite me about the card."
