Every week, G-POP.net strives to bring you a variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week:
Final Fantasy: Advent Children - Ismael Manzano reviews the fantasy / adventure movie sequel to the RPG game.
Excerpt: "A movie sequel to one of my favorite RPGs of all time? I couldnt believe my ears when, several months ago, I heard about the upcoming release of Final Fantasy Advent Children, by Square Enix. At the time, two things ran through my mind. The first was whether it would be released in the States or just in Japan and the second was that theyd better not screw this up like we did with Spirits Within.
Oprah Winfrey: A Woman On A Mission - A feature article about Oprah Winfrey written by Dorothy Doremus.
Excerpt: "Oprah Winfrey is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her show this year with so much generosity and information, I am honored to be in the television viewing audience. I have never before seen a celebrity take time, effort and generosity to the level that Oprah has. Not only has she devoted her life to making sure all of our lives are better, but she has also put her money where her mouth is in starting a project to put a stop to child sex offenders."
Allerton Avenue Musician Discusses Crashbox' Rise To Success - Jon Minners talks to the newest member of Crashbox about the band's growing success.
Excerpt: "By now, the accounts of Crashbox, the local Bronx band that has made a splash on the music scene, have been heard far and wide in these and other pages, but for Angelo Fariello, the latest member of the band, its all new to him, but he will not let the success go to his head.
Actress Apocalypse - Jon Minners reviews the lastest release from Crash Media.
Excerpt: "As a reviewer of all things entertainment, and I mean all things entertainment, I have been forced to view a number of really bad, almost laughable films and then I got a movie that makes fun of those same movies by pretending to be one of them itself. However, unlike those other films, none of which have been unfortunate enough to grace the pages of G-Pop, Actress Apocalypse is a total breath of fresh air; an ingeniously created film disguised as a really bad independent movie."
Tetris / Dr. Mario - A Turn Back the Clock article about two of Justine Manzano's favorite video games.
Excerpt:"I am crazy about Bejeweled. It is addictive and used to keep me away from work for hours before I realized that I would get my homework done with a lot less panic without it. The truth is, that this highly addictive, fun and colorful game is merely a copythe high tech daughter of two of the greatest games in history. So, lets jump back into the way back machine and take a look at a couple of games that everyone has played once. Either you were seriously deprived as a child or your younger version had the lovely 8-bit gaming system known to us as the NESor the Nintendo Entertainment System. Good times, good times. So youve got the Nintendo and the spectacular double game Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt package. What was the next game you had to get? Well, Tetris of course!"
His Majesty's Dragon - Melissa Minners reviews the chapter-long preview of the fantasy novel by Naomi Novik.
Excerpt: "This review is a tad different than the usual review here at G-POP in that it is a review of an excerpt of a novel rather than an entire novel. I received this except of His Majestys Dragon by Naomi Novik at the recent I-CON I attended. After reading the 29-page booklet, I decided that the special preview (as it is called on the pamphlets cover) deserved its own special review."
All of our columns are new this week:
Minners Commentary Corner: It Doesn't Matter If You're Black Or White: "I have been religiously watching this new FX show Black. White, which premiered in early March for a six-week run focusing on two families of different races living together. The gimmick for the show is that, through the magic of 'Hollywood' makeup, the families switch races, but that is not always the case. There are many scenes where the white family will be in black makeup and hang out with the black family, sans makeup, and vice versa. The idea is to mix things up and really get at the heart of the matter when it comes to race relations."
Random Acts Of Ismael: Part II: "Well lady or gentleman, you asked for itokay, maybe you didnt, but in my mind, you did, so deal with the responsibilityand now you have it: another Random Acts of Ismael for you to enjoy, share with friends, another influx of wisdom from which to mold your life around. What? You dont stay up at night wondering when and what Im going to write next? Youre serious? Good. I wouldnt want a fan that would have me as an idol anyways. So, without further delay, another loosely strung together andheres the key wordrandom cluster observations for youjust you."
Badseed's Bottomline #367: Weird World Wrestling: "Hey yo! Whats poppin my little Badseeds. Wrestling is quite odd these days and some of it is working and some of it is just a tad out there for my tastes. Heres a rundown on the weird and the wacky."
