Every week, G-POP.net strives to bring you a variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week:
BloodAngel - Ismael Manzano reviews the horror novel by Justine Musk.
Excerpt: " There are some books that incorporate magical elements and do so poorly, making the story seem forced and absurd, and then there are books that handle strong magical elements with style, managing to make the story interesting without sounding like a bad episode of Charmed. BloodAngel, Im very glad to say falls into the latter category. I picked up Justine Musks BloodAngel quite simply because she shared the same name as my wifes and because the cover intrigued me. My initial assumption, made from reading the title and skimming over the first chapter, was that this book would be another vampire book trying to pretend it was something else. Looking back, I can not believe how wrong that assumption had been."
The Expanding World of Fan Fiction - A feature article by Melissa Minners that discusses the growth of fan fiction as a genre.
Excerpt: "Have you ever wondered what might have happened if Padme hadnt died in Revenge of the Jedi? What if Green Lantern met Silver Surfer? How would Buffy the Vampire Slayer have turned out if she hadnt lost her mother? What if the Birds of Prey television show had aired for more than one season? These and many more are the questions asked by many fans around the world.... The invention of the internet has created a whole new avenue for discussion among fandom everywhere. Now, folks who penned alternate endings, new beginnings, or continuations of their favorite tales have the opportunity to spread their ideas worldwide. No longer must they be content with discussing their hypothesis within a small circle of local fans. Now, these ideas can be discussed among thousands of people from all over the world."
Play Boy Blues Volume 1 - Jon Minners reviews the latest Yaoi manga from Shiuko Kano.
Excerpt: "Yaoi manga is exploding giving women a reason to enjoy the manga art form as much as men do without the big robots and scantily clad women. Be Beautiful, a line of Yaoi manga distributed by Central Park Media, is the lead producer of what can be surmounted as the Queer as Folk of manga. The company continuously releases material at a rapid pace, satisfying womens literary needs. The latest in the series is Play Boy Blues, which the company is touting as a wildly erotic romantic comedy."
Stars In December - Remember the Sound - Melissa Minners reviews the debut EP from the Long Island, New York band, Stars in December.
Excerpt: "The Long Island, New York band Stars in December began its career in 2001 with an acoustic act by founding members Billy Orlando and Bryan Eich. Seeking to expand musically, rhythm, guitars, and keyboard were soon added with the addition of members John Emanuele, Steve DeBono, and Rich Cupolo in 2004. Although the band doesnt have an overly long career in the music business, some acts just dont need a past to make history."
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - Justine Manzano reviews the movie based on the popular series of novels.
Excerpt:"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was recently released on video, and I was eager to snatch it up and have a look. I had meant to see it upon it's theatrical release, but I was scraping the bottom of my pocket looking for a few bucks and came up empty. So, I learned it would have to wait. Why was I so eager to see this movie? The movie stars Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia), America Ferrera (Real Women Have Curves) and newcomer Blake Lively. When I saw the preview, I was immediately drawn in by Tamblyn, who I loved as Joan in Joan of Arcadia. I knew if she could carry a series, she could carry a movie. On the other side of this, I was increasingly annoyed by Alexis Bledel and that was just from watching commercials of the Gilmore Girls. So, I threw myself into this movie with little more than acting loyalty and a strong recommendation from my colleague Melissa Minners."
Dell Crossword Puzzles - Melissa Minners discusses her favorite brand of crossword puzzle magazines and why they are so entertaining.
Excerpt: "I was sitting there the other day, contemplating completing the crossword puzzle in the local newspaper when it hit me how many other people find these puzzles amusing? How many people dont just complete the puzzles in the newspaper, but actually go out and buy puzzle books containing crosswords, word searches, etc.? My own fascination with these puzzles began long ago and my favorite puzzle books are DELL!"
Badseed's Bottomline is all new - Random Thoughts: "Hey yo! So, it is unfortunate, but the lackluster PPV that was Wrestlemania sot me a pretty penny this month and I am forced to save my cash and not purchase the TNA PPV this weekend, which is probably the better of the two shows. So, if anyone is taping the show and wouldnt mind sending me a copy, drop me an email..."
