If you've ever played the video game The Suffering, you know that it was one helluva spooky game based in a haunted prison. The haunted prison in the game was based on a real prison in Pennsylvania called the Eastern State Penitentiary. This former prison, a National Historic Landmark located at 22nd Street and Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia, PA was the first of its kind. The kinds of punishment doled to its prisoners is legendary as are the identities of the prisoners, many of whom are infamous, such as the gangster Al Capone. The prison has, for many years, been considered haunted and there are several recorded sightings of the supernatural variety. From September 21 to November 3, 2007, Eastern State Penitentiary will be celebrating Halloween with special tours at night. Halloween at Eastern State Penitentiary, presented by LUKOIL, is said to be one heck of a fright-fest. The Penitentiary was recently voted on of the top ranking Haunted Houses in America. Visit the "Massive Haunted House In A Real Prison" for a night of "Terror Behind the Walls"! For ticket information, previews, promotions and information about ghost sightings, visit www.EasternState.org

Six Flags Fright Fest From About.com article about 2007's Fright Fest at Six Flags Theme Park: "2007 Fright Fest Halloween events with haunted mazes, costumed ghouls, special shows, and rides. Six Flags parks will be upping the gross-out factor by offering the Wheel of Fright and Coffin of Fear. For the former, intrepid guests can earn the right to skip to the front of the lines at the haunted houses and select rides by spinning a wheel and scarfing down the indicated item. Among the delicacies: live cockroaches, wax worms, crickets, and nightcrawlers, as well as Rocky Mountain oysters and Habenero peppers. Hey, at least the Rocky Mountain oysters aren't live. If skipping the lines is worth that much to you, God bless you. I'm on a strict nightcrawler-free diet, thank you very much. Guests willing to face the Coffin of Fear challenge must stay in a coffin filled with (live!) meal worms for at least one minute to win some kind of a prize--new underwear, perhaps? Most of Six Flags' roller coasters and non-water rides will be operating during the Fright Fest events." For more information, visit www.SixFlags.com/frightfest
