Every week, G-POP.net strives to bring you a variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week:
Stick It - Ismael Manzano reviews the new movie starring Missy Peregrym and Jeff Bridges.
Excerpt: "I went to see Stick it because my wife is a big gymnastics fan. I, while I am not as big a fan, do admire the athletic abilities of gymnasts and looked forward to seeing how this movie represented that skill. The movie follows Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym of Black Sash), a rebellious, risk-taker who breaks more rules than she follows. Haley has one run-in with the law more than the law is willing to tolerate. Her father makes a deal with the judge to send her to either a Military Academy or an elite gymnastics academy as punishment..."
Bronx Cable Program Focuses On The Origins of Hip Hop - Jon Minners discusses the DJ Cool Clyde Show, a show dedicated to discussing the various facets of Hip Hop.
Excerpt: "Who really created Hip Hop? I dont know. I love Hip Hop. I love the classics and I continue to listen today. Sure, the message in rap is gone today and everything is about just the beat and catchy hook, but Hip Hop is still the greatest genre of music that fills my iPod. But 50 Cent came from somewhere and in order to get to where you are going in this music business, you need to know where you came from. So, I ask again; who really created Hip Hop? There are a number of stories that artists tell, but the true pioneers of the genre that eventually became a culture all its own often go unrecognized, sometimes cited by artists, but never truly given a voice; others ignored despite making major contributions. One program getting play on local cable channel Bronxnet hopes to tell a story often left untold until now."
The Exorcism of Emily Rose - Melissa Minners reviews the controversial movie starring Jennifer Carpenter and Laura Linney.
Excerpt: "When I first heard about this movie, I was skeptical. Watch a movie about a failed exorcism that resulted in a young womans death? I think not. However, when faced with the choice of renting a movie that I had already seen, and trying something new, I decided to try something new. So, my friends and I dimmed down the lights, got comfortable, and prepared to view this movie with open minds."
In The Music Scene, GodKind Is One Of A Kind - Jon Minners reviews the music of the Christian rock band, GodKind.
Excerpt: "God Kind is mankind's true Christian destiny, but it is also a Christian rock band out of Wytheville, Virginia that preaches the Gospel in a way that may or may not be more suitable for this generation of mainstream culture sheep who rely on entertainment to shape their views. Smart move on the part of GodKind, because this band has got something going for it and it is time their message was delivered to the masses."
Munich - Melissa Minners reviews the movie soundtrack composed by John Williams.
Excerpt: "In September, 1972, the world was absorbed in the second week of events comprising the Summer Olympics taking place in Munich, West Germany. Without warning, Black September, an extremist Palestinian group, invaded Olympic Village and murdered two members of the Israeli Olympic, making hostages of nine others. A grueling 21 hours later, the world learned that every hostage member had been killed. Munich, a film directed by Stephen Spielberg, (Indiana Jones, E.T. Into the West, War of The Worlds: Counterpoint, Memoirs of a Geisha and more), is about the secretive aftermath following the massacre in Munich...The soundtrack of Munich is composed and conducted by none other than John Williams, composer of the soundtracks of every Star Wars movie, Memoirs of a Geisha, War of the Worlds, Superman, E.T., and Jaws to name just a few..."
Agents of Light and Darkness - Ismael Manzano reviews the sequel to Something From the Nightside by Simon R. Green.
Excerpt: "Not long ago I gave up the fight against sequel reviews. So, in the spirit of sequels, I bring to you my review of Agents of Light and Darkness by Simon R. Green, sequel to Something From the Nightsideone of my new favorite books. Agents of Light and Darkness picks up several months after the end of the last book, with John Taylor, a private eye, having relocated back to the Nightside for good, doing his usual business of using his special gift to find what others can not. There are still people who want him dead, still mysteries yet unsolved in his life, not the least of which is who and what his mother was."
Badseed's Bottomline #370: Quick Hits From The Dome is all new this week: "Joey Styles shoots on the WWE and I loved it. I felt that Styles was a little stiff in his acting throughout the show. He wasn't as animated as in ECW and scarily, he almost sounded like he was going to cry about Jerry Lawler shoving him. But still, the things he said were so dead on. He hit the nail on the head about what is so wrong in the WWE and maintained the Renegade image of ECW. The only problem is that you may want to disrespect the fans that love the WWE, but at the same time, you do want a successful product so be careful about pissing off fans. This isn't another Bret Hart; Canada vs. The U.S. situation where fans love Hart or pay to see him get his ass kicked. As a separate band, you want as many fans as possible enjoying."
