Every week, G-POP.net strives to bring you a variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week:
Silent Hill - Jon Minners reviews the horror/suspense film based on the video game.
Excerpt: "Silent Hill revolutionized the video game horror genre after Resident Evil saturated the zombie market. The first game was an inspired tale that captivated video gamers and inspired three more sequels. Having beaten the first game, eagerly anticipating each day I had the chance to play, I was excited by the prospect of a movie adapting all the horror and disturbing images that played out on my screen like a Marilyn Manson video. The second and third games were a thrilling rush of adrenaline that I played in the dark, angered by my inability to complete due to a horrendous work schedule. A fourth game has been released that looks to take the horror title to a new level and finally, that movie I envision has made it to the big screen."
Unknown Soldier - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack of Ferenc Toth's debut film.
Excerpt: " Unknown Soldier is the debut film of writer, producer and director Ferenc Toth. Starring Carl Louis, Randy Clark, Layla Edwards, Carl Garrison and Postell Pringle, the movie centers about Ellison (Carl Louis), known as L to his family and friends, a young man who has everything going for him. Despite having lost his mother at the age of five, Ellison still grew up to be an intelligent, vibrant 18-year-old, thanks to his loving father. To say that Ellison has led a sheltered life becomes an understatement when tragedy strikes and Ellison finds himself out on his own in the streets of Harlem....The Original Motion Picture Score of Unknown Soldier is composed by Peter Calandra, an accomplished jazz musician and composer...Jazz is the perfect music medium for the soundtrack of Unknown Soldier. Peter Calandra uses the music medium to bring out the emotion throughout the film..."
When Fantasy Becomes Reality: Evermore - Jon Minners reviews the fantasy/romance book by Hunter Lord and Ariel Masters.
Excerpt: "When I first read Evermore, I marveled at the authors ability to take a fantasy world and make it real. Hunter Lord and Ariel Masters put together a world like the one we live in with characters not unlike people we bump into on the street every single day on the way to work. Their emotions, their ideals, their beliefs, their heart they are real people that just happen to be characters in the book and Lord and Masters embed enough fantasy into the drama and humor to make the story as intense as it is heartwarming. But the fantasy just isnt really fantasy anymoreIll explain..."
9thElsewhere.com - Melissa Minners reviews the webcomic / online manga by Caroline "Carmen" Curtis.
Excerpt: "Some time ago, I was talking with a friend and co-writer about needing some different material for G-POP. We already have covered quite a wide variety of things for the site, but variety is the spice of life and I wanted to add even more new and exciting things for our readers to discuss. Rowena pointed me toward a webcomic called 9thElsewhere and I was hooked from the first page."
Monkey Shines - A Turn Back the Clock review by Ismael Manzano of a George Romero movie based on a horror novel by Michael Stewart.
Excerpt: "In keeping with g-pops tradition of reviewing old movies you might not have heard about or have forgotten about, I decided to dig up an old classic that scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. Although, it didnt do the same thing to me this time around, but thats because Im a battle-hardened horror movie watcher now. That doesnt mean the movie did not have some genuine thrills and chills."
Murder & Mayhem In the God Box On A Billion Dollars A Day - Melissa Minners reviews a collection of science fiction tales.
Excerpt: "Murder & Mayhem In the God Box On A Billion Dollars A Day is actually a compilation of three novellas. Someone had the idea to arrange the titles of the story to create one large eye-catching humorous title. Quite a creative little strategy to use in drawing in a potential reader. The novel is published by Padwolf Publishing who has given us Murhpys Lore, The Starscape Project, and Destinys Door, all creative and well-liked novels. Each story in this compilation places the reader in an entirely different world. Each is about survival, but on a vastly different scale from story to story."
Badseed's Bottomline is all new this week - "Hey yo! Saw Sacrifice last weekend. Awesome. So much to say. TNA knows tag-team wrestling. You could have three tag-team matches in the WWE and they are all the same. In TNA, every tag-team match is different. We had the high intensity of AMW vs. Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles; the traditional tag-team match with The James Gang vs. Team 3D complete with funny spots, signs of respect and a great sense of the past storyline between the two teams; and the straight up brawling match that sets up for future storylines for all the mongrel team members. Every match was booked differently. All the matches were exciting and they make TNA; its tag-team belts and its division the place to be. All tag-teams take notice...."
