Each and every week, G-POP.net strives to bring you a variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week:
ABC's Fall 2005-2006 Television Season: What Worked and What Sucked - Justine Manzano begins a series of reviews regarding the Fall 2005 Television Season. This week - ABC.
Excerpt: "If you are a big time television watcher, it happens to you every year. You sit down with your TV Guide in front of you and decide which shows of the new season sound like they are worth your time. You choose a list, add them to your old faithful shows, and expect to walk out of the whole thing with a couple of spectacular new shows that you love and a few things you wished never aired...So, now that the season is at an end, lets look at what worked, what didnt, and possibly give you an idea of what to check out next year. Over the next couple of weeks, Ill explore the last television seasons hits and misses, TV station by station. This week lets start with The American Broadcasting Channel or, as most humans know it, ABC. Enjoy!"
Verizon and MySpace; proving ground for Bronx musician - Jon Minners writes about Bronx musician Fraco Anthony how Verizon and MySpace helped put a charge in his music career.
Excerpt: "Although MySpace.com has received some negative feedback in recent months due to the questionable content found on some members pages within the mega-popular website, the popular Internet hub has unquestionably become a destination point for independent bands trying to get a break in the music industry. Through a special contest Calling All Bands, MySpace.com teamed with Verizon Wireless in search of a band that they would feature in a song, music video, ring tone and ring back tone on Verizons increasingly growing V Cast membership that showcases mainstream entertainment to wireless users in a unique format. While only one band won, others used the competition as a springboard to success. One such artist calls the Bronx his home."
Dark Wisdom: The Magazine of Dark Fiction: Issue #9 - Melissa Minners revisits the Magazine of Dark Wisdom and talks about the Spring 2006 edition.
Excerpt: "Some time ago, I wrote a review of Dark Wisdom: The Magazine of Dark Fiction: Issue #8. The review was such a hit and the magazines contents so diverse, I decided to review the very next issue. Spring 2006 brings us Issue #9 and, just as with Issue #8, the cover art is enough to capture your attention and make you wonder as to the content of the magazine."
Swing Batta Swing - A Turn Back the Clock music review featuring the group K7.
Excerpt: " The other day, I was searching through my cassette tapes for something to listen to on my way to work. For those of you from the CD and digital age, a cassette tape is a rectangular thing with two spools that plays music if you put it into a tape deck. Yup, I even have those circular things made of vinyl called records. Anyways, my car is old enough to come from an era where only tape decks were offered and so, I was searching for a cool tape to start my workday off right. Suddenly, from out of the huge assortment, one tape catches my eye. K7! I yell. It was, of course, the perfect choice."
Magic Kingdom for Sale: Sold - Ismael Manzano reviews the fantasy novel written by Terry Brooks.
Excerpt: " Ive been an avid fan of Terry Brooks since I was about twelve. Ive read almost all of his Shannara series and am always surprised by the depth to which he takes his prose in that world. So, you could imagine my surprise when I learned that Mr. Brooks had done another fantasy series, apart from the Shannara universe. Magic Kingdom for Sale: Sold was actually written about twenty years ago, but being obsessed with the Shannara books, I never noticed this book. Of course, when I did notice it, I picked it up and read through it at breakneck speed, eager to see if Mr. Brooks could duplicate the magic of Shannara."
Amazin: The Miraculous History of New Yorks Most Beloved Baseball Team - Melissa Minners a book about the New York Mets written by Peter Golenbock.
Excerpt: "I recently wrote an article about Baseballs Opening Day in which I discussed how much that blessed event means to me. As a kid, I was such a baseball fan that I constantly searched the local librarys book shelves for every book I could find about the players of the sport. I read countless books about Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Brooks Robinson, and the boys of the summer. Nowadays, having a hobby such as reading books about baseball can be a daunting, wallet-depleting task. There are just so many books out there; I couldnt possibly read them all. Thus, I am selective, seeking out books only about my favorite players or teams. When a co-worker walked in with a monster-sized book about my favorite team, the New York Mets, I knew I just had to have it!"
Badseed's Bottomline is all enw this week: "Hey yo! I cant believe next week will be my 375th edition of Badseeds Bottomline . How many Internet writers can say that? Its an amazing feeling and I owe it all to my readers. Seriously, what would be the point if no one read my column? I may not have the time to respond to all my readers, but I appreciate every hit, email, friend request and comment. Im nothing without you. The same can be said for ECW. The fans just would not let ECW die. As long as ECW wrestlers crashed tabled, fans would utter those three letters in a way no other company could achieve..."
