Throughout the year here at G-POP.net, we strive to bring you a variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week:
The G-POP Experience - This week, G-POP.net celebrates its first anniversary as an entertainment website. In this article, the creators, regular staff and guest writers all tell of their experience working on G-POP.net.
Excerpt: "On June 18, 2005, a new website was born. The creators of the website promised that they would bring you ALL things entertainment. They promised you the mainsteam and the independent. They promised to report on forms of entertainment that many of its readers may not have even thought of. Over the past year, the creators and writers of G-POP.net worked hard to stick to their goal. In doing so, they brought their readers stories of entertainment industry hopefuls, mainstream media, conventions, vacation spots, craft shows, and much, much more. As G-POP.net celebrates one full year as an entertainment site, lets hear from the creators and writers about their G-POP Experience."
Fox's Fall 2005-2006 Television Season: What Worked and What Sucked - Justine Manzano continues her series of reviews regarding the Fall 2005 Television Season. This week - FOX.
Excerpt: "Hello again, everybody out in TV world! For these last couple of weeks I have enjoyed ripping into last years premiere shows and some that had already existed, but that either managed to remain good, took a turn for the worse, or finally gained my attention. This week Im taking a look at Foxs fall season to determine how much time Ive wasted this year. I value my Television watching timeI value it a lot."
Writing for G-POP - A re-cap of Ismael Manzano's original rant about writing for G-POP.net.
Excerpt: "Reluctantthats what I was when my wife approached me to write reviews on a semi-weekly basis for her new e-zine. It wasnt that I didnt like the idea of an e-zine that focuses on arts and entertainment and all things popular, I just didnt think I could do it. I didnt think I had anything to say or that anyone would want to hear it if I did. (I still dont, but I have at least four people telling me differently, so Ill defer to their wisdom). I told her Id think about it and went about my business."
Take A Thief - Melissa Minners reviews the fantasy novel from the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey.
Excerpt: "In my quest to learn more about the intriguing land known as Valdemar, I recently picked up Take A Thief by Mercedes Lackey. The novel takes place just prior to the Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy (Queen Selenays reign) and centers about Skif, the mischievous herald trainee who befriends Talia in that series."
Negadon: The Monster from Mars - Jon Minners reviews a new monster movie distributed by Central Park Media and directed by Jun Awazu.
Excerpt: "I remember growing up as a child, there were just some things you did that stay with you. I still remember getting up every Saturday morning and watching the various cartoons. I still love cartoons today. I remember every Saturday afternoon watching kung-fu movies. I still love kung-fu flicks, but only the dubbed kind. And, finally, another Saturday/Thanksgiving tradition that stays with me: the obsession with monster movies. The cheesiness and at the same time, almost lifelike monsters of Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, King Kong and so many others, captured my imagination like nothing else. Its that very same reason that people were so disappointed with the Americanized Godzilla film. Its also, to a small degree, why Jurassic Park did so well. People love that excitement of a monster tearing through a City, leaving devastation behind it. We know they are bad, but we cheer for them anyway..."
Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - Melissa Minners reviews the movie soundtrack by John Williams and the bonus Star Wars: A Musical Journey DVD.
Excerpt: "A true movie fan loves everything about the movie, including the movies soundtrack. A soundtrack can breathe life into a more ordinary film or make a fantastic film soar to unfathomable heights...Being a huge fan of both John Williams and all things Star Wars, it should come as no surprise that I would rush out to buy the Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Soundtrack the moment it hit the store shelves...As a special treat, the Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Soundtrack contains a bonus DVD called Star Wars: A Musical Journey. The DVD quite literally takes you on a musical journey through the Star Wars saga, using clips from the films set to parts of the musical score for all six movies."
Minners Commentary Corner And Badseed's Bottomline are new this week:
Minners Commentary Corner: The New Shit Continues - "Last year, The Minners Commentary Corner found a new home. It was G-Pop. And I remember writing the first column for the new site. I appropriately titled it This is the New Shit, because it indeed was. It was a brand new start and a brand new topic-driven style of writing for the column my readers have enjoyed for over eight years. And a year later, G-Pop.net is still alive and kicking the only place to get the hottest column on the Internet. So, with the birthday of G-Pop upon us, I choose to write a similar column; a cross between my usual commentary and a thank you to those who helped me stay on the right path in making G-Pop what it is today..."
Badseed's Bottomline #376: ECW: Aftermath - "Hey yo! So, the ECW explosion continues and it is the best thing to happen to wrestling in some time. Finally, the industry is interesting again. People were excited. Ratings were up. Wrestling was all over the place. But was the ECW experiment; at least the beginning, a success? Lets discuss it."
