Each and every week at G-POP.net, we strive to bring you a tremendous variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week's issue:
A Scanner Darkly - Ismael Manzano reviews the new science fiction film starring Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey, Jr.
Excerpt: " I need time to digest. Those were the words I said when, while walking out of the theater, my wife asked me what I thought of A Scanner Darkly; Im still digesting. I was very interested in seeing this film, having been hooked by the offbeat plot and visually unique style shown by the preview. Id never heard of Philip K. Dicks novel A Scanner Darkly until I saw Warner Independent Pictures adaptation of it, so I went into the movie with no preconceived notions and no expectations to judge the movie against. Whether or not this is a good thing for me, as the viewer, remains to be seen. Maybe in writing this review, Ill be able to figure it out."
Lady in the Water - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack of the latest movie from M. Night Shymalan.
Excerpt: "M. Night Shymalans latest film, Lady in the Water, is a tale about an apartment manager who makes an unbelievable discover inside the apartment complexs swimming pool. Cleveland Heep, portrayed by Paul Giamatti, discovers a beautiful nymph (Bryce Dallas Howard) has been hiding in the passageways beneath the pool, pursued by deadly creatures bent on destroying her. Heep and his fellow tenants, bestowed special powers by the nymph, soon discover that they have important roles to play in the completion of her mission."
Caesar's Pocono Resort: Paradise Streams - Justine and Ismael Manzano take us on a vacation spot tour of the Pocono's Resort.
Excerpt: "If we were going to review a couples resort it seems fitting that we do so as a couple. So ladies and gentlemen, behold the first article written by both Ismael and Justine Manzano. We came across Paradise Streams because our fifth wedding anniversary was coming up and we wanted to revisit our honeymoon resort. Problem was, that resort had long since closed down, so we went in search of a new, albeit, similar one."
Class Act: Double Indemnity - In this latest installment of the Class Act series, Justine Manzano reviews Double Indemnity.
Excerpt: "Lets have a nice warm welcome for the return on Class Act, the every-now-and-then column that I produce about my own school work and what gems it helps me to discover. My first class act for this year comes from the film class I recently completed. Double Indemnity is a classic of the film noir styleit is dark, it is filled to the brim with crime drama, it is intriguing and suspensefulall the qualities necessary in film noir."
Local Rap Group Takes Over the Bronx One Train Ride at a Time - Jon Minners discusses the local rap group, Most Popular Criminals, and their innovative way of distributing their music.
Excerpt: " Whether you are riding the Number 5 train from Morris Park, the Number 6 from Pelham Bay, the Number 4 from Jerome Avenue, the Number 2 from West Farms or any other train in the Bronx, one thing remains the same: criminals are taking over, but not the kind riders may think. These criminals carry a positive message to straphangers in the form of hip hop. A local rap act, the Most Popular Criminals, has found a new and innovative way to bring their music to the masses by selling CDs on subways throughout New York City, including the Bronx, with the hope of making a name for themselves."
