Each and every week at G-POP.net, we strive to bring you a tremendous variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week's issue:
Clerks II - Ismael Manzano reviews the long-awaited sequel to the comedy by Kevin Smith.
Excerpt: "Anyone who knows anything about me, knows that Clerks was one of my favorite movies of all time. That it was an independent, low budget film, only served to fuel my love for the offbeat, original piece of film history. So when I heard about the release of Clerks II, the long awaiteddirectsequel to one of my favorite movies of all time, I jumped at the chance to watch and review it."
Tarzan: The Broadway Musical - Jon Minners reviews the cast album from Disney Records.
Excerpt: "For a long stretch, without the help of Pixar, Walt Disney created some of the greatest animated tales children have ever seen, from Little Mermaid to Beauty and the Beast and from Lion King and Aladdin to Tarzan. Not since Tarzan was first created more than 90 years ago, introduced by Edgar Rice Burroughs in the October 1912 issue of All Story Magazine, had anyone really understood the concept of the character. So many tried and so many flops later, no version of Tarzan has stood the test of time as much as the 1999 animated film. Taking a cue from the hit Beauty and the Beast and Lion King Broadway Musicals that Disney launched, Tarzan has hit the stage and along with it a CD featuring a cast album created by Oscar and six-time Grammy award winning artist Phil Collins."
American Gothic: The Series - A Turn Back the Clock television series review by Justine Manzano.
Excerpt: "Have you ever watched something and remembered it being so good that, years later, you felt compelled to track it down only to find out that it was not quite as good as you remembered? Well, when the supernatural television series, American Gothic, aired on television in 1995, it was one of my favorite shows. By the time I had watched the DVDs that were released early this year, I was less sure. It wasnt bad, but it had many more flaws than I had remembered. Come, explore with me!"
Star Wars Fan Films Recognized by AtomFilms and Lucasfilm, Ltd. - A feature article by Melissa Minners exploring The Official Star Wars Fan Film Awards 2006.
Excerpt: "Since 2002, Atom Films, one of the internets best sources for short-form comedies, dramas and animations, in conjunction with Lucasfilm Ltd., has been the host of The Official Star Wars Fan Film Awards. The event was created to honor the best of the Star Wars-themed spoofs and documentaries lovingly created by Star Wars fans everywhere. Prizes have ranged from those of monetary value to trophies to official recognition by George Lucas at large conventions (Celebration II and Comic Con) and starwars.com...."
A Hip Hop Museum Right Where It Belongs - Jon Minners discusses the plans to construct a Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx.
Excerpt: "It's about time. As Hip Hop continues to be the music of choice amongst all Americans, the music, the fashion, the entire culture is about to be recognized with a brand new museum that is about to become a reality. Hip Hop has a home and it is right where it was born; in the Bronx."
Twisted - Melissa Minners reviews the a collection of short stories by Jeffery Deaver.
Excerpt: "Whenever anyone asks me to recommend a suspense or mystery novel, I always tell them to check out Jeffery Deavers novels. I have always been a fan of Jeffery Deaver's writing, particularly his Lincoln Rhyme series. For those of you who don't remember who Lincoln Rhyme is, he was the main character of the movie The Bone Collector which was based on the novel of the same name by Jeffery Deaver (see Vanished Man review). Most fans of Jeffery Deaver know that he has amassed an impressive array of novels under his own name and under the pseudonym William Jefferies. But did you know that Deaver also writes short stories. I didn't that is until I saw Twisted at the local Barnes and Noble. I toyed with the idea of buying it, wondering how well Deaver would fare in the short story genre. Noting that there was a Lincoln Rhyme short story in the mix sealed the deal and I was soon the proud owner of a collection of 16 short stories from my favorite suspense novelist."
Minners Commentary Corner and Badseed's Bottomline are all new:
Minners Commentary Corner: Those That Were Left Behind - "I am interrupting my usual flow of commentaries, because I just received some highly disturbing news. He wasnt my close friendin fact, at one time, I wouldnt even consider him to be a human being, but over the years, I associated with him a lot when I lived in Morris Park and it was rather upsetting to hear the news that Doug died. Death seems all too familiar to me. I wont go deep into the issue. For this, I will stick to the neighborhood. Morris Park. The place I once called home. I went to school there. I worked there. I played there. I fell in love there. I got in trouble there. I may not live there anymore, but Morris Park will always be my home and yet so many people I grew up with there are dead..."
Badseed's Bottomline #382: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly - "Hey yo! Once again, I am going to look at the good, the bad and the ugly going on in the world of wrestling. Yep, this is similar to Bob Woodwards column at Pro Wrestling Insider (he deserves the plug). Lets get right into it..."
