Each and every week at G-POP.net, we strive to bring you a tremendous variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week's issue:
Dance Fever: A Look At The Current Dance Craze in America - Jon Minners discusses America's recent obsession with all things dance - movies, reality shows, etc.
Excerpt: "I like to consider myself to be a heterosexual man, but there I was sitting on a Wednesday night, with my girlfriend, mind you, watching several men dance in tights or in formal wear or even with their shirts open, to the waltz or any other fruity style dance during the hit summer reality television show So You Think You Can Dance. ..."
Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous - Justine Manzano reviews the graphic novel starring the Astonishing X-Men, Joss Whedon's latest contribution to the comic book industry.
Excerpt: "It is no secret that I am a big fan of the X-Men comic series. Its all very good, but every now and then, Marvel Comics turns out an X-Men moment that demands recognition. The Astonishing X-Men series, created by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly television series creator and Fray comic series creator Joss Whedon, as an entire series, has been remarkable. However, my recent purchase of the Astonishing X-Men graphic novel, Dangerous, felt like it deserved special mention."
The Heat Is Off In Miami - Denna Rivera reviews the motion picture remake of the 1980's television series, Miami Vice.
Excerpt: "The replica of the 1984 action series hardly lived up to its original predecessor. Agents James Sonny Crockett (played by Colin Farrell, S.W.A.T) and Ricardo Rico Tubbs (played by Jamie Foxx, Collateral, also directed by Michael Mann) seem out of place in this lackluster action movie."
The Essential Hollywood - Melissa Minners reviews this compilation of some of the most famous movie soundtracks ever created.
Excerpt: "Movies and music are two heavily entwined genres. Music serves to enhance the visual in movies, adding drama to one scene, suspense to anotherwithout music, most movies would be rather flat. Always thought of as integral parts of an entire movie soundtrack, one can rarely find them as stand alones. The Essential Hollywood, distributed by Sony Classical, is a 2-CD set featuring some of the most memorable themes of cinema. The set contains 27 songs in all and features music from award-winning composers such as John Williams, Max Steiner, Bernard Herrman, Henry Mancini, and more."
Class Act: The Importance of Being Earnest - Ismael Manzano's Class Act review of the Oscar Wilde play.
Excerpt: "As some of you might know, I, Ismael Manzano, have recently returned tobegancollege in an effort to better myself. As some of you may also know, my wife, Justine, began a tradition of converting her work assignments into reviews which she named Class Acts. In keeping with her tradition and, in the hopes of keeping up with the demands of my job, Im following in her footsteps with my very first Class Act of The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde."
What It Takes To Be #1: Vince Lombardi on Leadership - Melissa Minners reviews this helpful guide on leadership as viewed in the infamous football coach Vince Lombardi by his son.
Excerpt: "When people think of entertainment, they dont usually think of business books. However, it has been my experience that many members of the business world find such books to be very entertaining and useful tools for their daily lives. Thus, I decided to review this book about leadership by Vincent Lombardi, Jr. I was first introduced to What It Takes to Be #1: Vince Lombardi on Leadership by a Baruch College professor who referred to it in a management skills seminar I took part in. I was intrigued by the lines quoted from the book, and knowing just how successful Vince Lombardi was in getting his teams to put on their very best performances every time they took to the field, I decided to read it myself."
Random Acts of Ismael and Badseed's Bottomline are all new:
Random Acts of Ismael: Same-Sex Marriage - "Okay, ladies and gent, its time once again, for my overly packaged, hyper-enthused, thoughts spewed onto a blank sheet of electronic paper for your amusement, approval, and admirationor just to pass the time for a few minutes. The story of this rant comes from college, from my English class to be precise. Yes, I go to college! No, its not to wear a hat with golden arches on itI do that already! Anyway, I was askedpolitely told to or I would failto write a documented paper. This is basically, an argumentative essay. I was given the choice between law, region, youth issues, and something else. Aside from that, I was told to write whatever I wanted. Problem was, I did not know what to write..."
Badseed's Bottomline #387: I Wish It Was Just An Angle - "Hey yo! It is a sad day in wrestling. Watching ECW, I realized it was true; Kurt Angle was really released from his contract. Hes done with the WWE and most likely, he is done with wrestling. I wanted to believe it was some kind of angle, but it appears to be true. Wrestling just got less interesting..."
