Each and every week at G-POP.net, we strive to bring you a tremendous variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week's issue:
Grey's Anatomy - Justine Manzano reviews the Season One DVD of the hit television series.
Excerpt: "The Fall 2006-2007 television season is quickly approaching. Now, we here at G-Pop know how hard it is to sift through a bevy of new shows, while simultaneously struggling to keep up with the one's you have always loved and still finding time to correct yourself when you miss out on one of those shows. Last year, when I was struggling with this very same predicament, I decided to check out ABC's Grey's Anatomy, then in its second season. I prepared by taking in the first season. I purchased the DVD and I think that's exactly what you, the reader, should do. Even if you are staunchly against medical dramas, as I am, you will find that you can't help but fall in love. Here's why..."
Hollywoodland Soundtrack - Kristy Caruso reviews the soundtrack for the motion picture about the mysterious death of George Reeves (aka: Superman).
Excerpt: "Picture it. Hollywood, 1959. Glitz, glamour, star power. It was a time of mega money mega entertainment, and some of the best damn music ever made. People looked to actors as heroes-and in the case of Hollywoodland, we get to see a heroes life go sour. Whether or not this fall-of-superman mystery is your thing, the soundtrack to Hollywoodland will have your feet tapping..."
Crank - Jon Minners reviews the adrenaline pumping action film starring Jason Stathom.
Excerpt: "Ridiculous. That's the one word I uttered out of my mouth when I walked out of the movie theaters after seeing the film, Crank. It's a word that I have associated with the movie's star Jason Statham since I saw Transporter. It became even more apparent last year when Transporter 2 upped the ante for us adrenaline rush junkies. But the action star has somehow found a niche that works and despite my doubts that any film could top Transporter 2 for sheer absurdity, Crank not only tops it, but leaves it in the dust. But for ever unrealistic moment, for every scene that makes you laugh at its sheer stupidity and for every scene that just makes you shake your head in disillusionment, Crank ends up being a brilliant masterpiece of action, adventure and visual eye candy, making it the most fun and exciting movie of the summer..."
North and South - The Trilogy - Melissa Minners turns back the clock to review the trilogy of miniseries covering the events before, during, and immediately after the Civil War.
Excerpt: "When I was a kid, I remember that one of my Dad's favorite authors was John Jakes. You could always spot him with a John Jakes novel in hand...and when those novels were made into television movies, Dad would make certain he caught every episode. In 1985, our mutual love of history and Dad's faithfulness to John Jakes found us glued to the television as the first episode of the epic miniseries, North and South, aired...Upon its conclusion, I was not only eager to read the novel, but impatient to see the second novel, Love and War, come to television. I have long since read all three novels and watched the movies numerous times...."
Artemis Fowl - Ismael Manzano reviews the fantasy novel by Eoin Colfer.
Excerpt: "I first spotted Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer, about a year ago, while combing through the local Barnes and Noble for something new to read. I spotted Artemis Fowl in the children's section and debated heavily whether or not to purchase it. The premise was intriguing, but my wallet was empty. In the end, I decided to side with my wallet and all but forgot about Artemis Fowl until, a few months ago, while shopping with my kid sister, I spotted the book in one of her favorite book stores. She read the jacket and asked if I could buy her a copy. Well, that was all the referral I needed. I bought two copies and that night I began reading..."
Shoot Me, Shoot Me, Heaven - Melissa Minners reviews the latest album from singer / songwriter Taylor Hollingsworth.
Excerpt: "Some time ago, I reviewed Tragic City, an album by singer / songwriter from Alabama named Taylor Hollingsworth. Brash Music had been promoting Hollingsworth as a terrific guitarist and I agreed with them. I also agreed with the statement that Hollingsworth's music "is also not quite like anything you know." I remember thinking it was not quite like anything I would actually want to know. In fact, had it not been for the great guitar riffs, I would have toted the album as a hugely tragic mistake by the artist. Instead, I suggested that the artist should stay with music, but find a different front man for his band. Recently, I received a new album from Taylor Hollingsworth called Shoot Me, Shoot Me Heaven..."
Random Acts of Ismael and Badseed's Bottomline are all new:
Random Acts of Ismael: Thirty and Hating It - "This past Monday marked a turning point in my life. It was the day that I realized that you people aren't the diehard fans I once thought you were. You called yourselves zealots, called yourselves loyal, but in the end, not a one of you cared enough to blindly follow your master's orders and do what you were told to do. What am I talking about? My boycott of course! What boycott? Don't you pay attention? A while ago, I wrote a rant, calling for a boycott to aging. Well, guess what? My birthday came and went, and aging has continued as usual. I asked everyone to join me in the boycott to stop aging and keep me at the glorious age of twenty-nine forever, but no-oo—you wouldn't listen..."
Badseed's Bottomline #389: Current Events and Predictions - "Hey yo! So, I strayed away from reviewing the wrestling scene for a few weeks, but now, I'm back with some thoughts and predictions..."
