Each and every week at G-POP.net, we strive to bring you a tremendous variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week's issue:
First Impressions: Jericho/Six Degrees - In this installment of First Impressions, Ismael Manzano gives us his impressions of the new CBS series, Jericho, and the new ABC series, Six Degrees.
Excerpt: "Hello weblanders. Today, I'm bringing you my third new show review. I know it's a week late, but I could only write so much at a time. This installment features, CBS's new Wednesday show Jericho, which premiered September the 20th and can be seen every week at 8pm, and ABC's new Thursday show, Six Degrees, which premiered September 21st and can be seen every week at 10pm. Both shows were highly anticipated by yours truly and I couldn't wait until they aired."
Jet Li's Fearless - Jon Minners reviews the new action / adventure /drama starring Jet Li.
Excerpt: "There comes a time when those who attend a movie truly get their money's worth. They walk in to the theater, drop $10 and walk out feeling like they owe money. It's a film that doesn't only leave your chest pumping from the adrenaline like the film Crank; it's a film that does not suck you in with likeable characters who consumers want to cheer for like in Invincible; it's not a film that brings a tear to your eye, like Crash or has you sitting on the edge of your seat like Skeleton Key. No, Jet Li's Fearless, the movie that will be Jet Li's first epic martial arts performance, accomplished it all and o much more."
The Spirit of St. Louis: A History of the St. Louis Cardinals and Browns - Melissa Minners reviews a book about the history of two St. Louis baseball teams written by Peter Golenbock.
Excerpt: "After reading Amazin': The Miraculous History of New York's Most Beloved Baseball Team by Peter Golenbock, I had decided that this man, like myself, had a genuine love for the game. His book about the New York Mets discussed the good, the bad, and the ugly and gave the reader incredible insight into the team's history. I loved his writing style which mixed facts with quotes from players, managers, sports writers, and fans, giving the reader an overall picture – a view from every perspective. When I saw The Spirit of St. Louis: A History of the St. Louis Cardinals and Browns on the bookshelf at my local Barnes & Noble, I decided to pick it up. Knowing Golenbock's dedication to telling the story fully and from every angle, I couldn't wait to read this tale about teams from a city rich with baseball history."
Someone Like You - Justine Manzano reviews the romantic movie starring Ashley Judd, Hugh Jackman, and Greg Kinnear.
Excerpt: "Every now and then, I like to pick up a movie I have loved for years and examine what exactly it is I love about it so much. Someone Like You is not quite old enough to merit a Turn Back The Clock status, but it is a little behind us. Released in 2001, Someone Like You was the first movie Hugh Jackman did after he debuted as Wolverine in the first X-Men movie. Having fallen in love with him there, I decided I needed to see this movie, plot notwithstanding. I didn't realize that I was ignoring the best part."
The Wild Soundtrack - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack of the Walt Disney hit movie The Wild.
Excerpt: "The Wild Soundtrack, distributed by Walt Disney Records, is a mixture of musical score and original song...musical score created by award-winning composer Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, The Polar Express, Van Helsing, Tomb Raider, Mummy). Silvestri is no stranger to Walt Disney records, having composed the musical score for such movies as Lilo & Stitch and The Parent Trap."
The Metropolitan Opera Gets SIRIUS About Its Music - Jon Minners discusses the Metropolitan Opera's foray into satellite radio.
Excerpt: "How many times have you sat there listening to Fergie's London Bridge and wondered to yourself, damn, I wish I could just switch channels and move to the beat of a different drum; maybe Mozart; a little Madama Butterfly? Of course you have. I know I do and now there is a station just for the opera or classical music lover in all of us who gets excited when they hear a Beethoven beat backing a Nas song. The originals and close renditions are just a satellite radio away."
Random Acts of Ismael and Badseed's Bottomline are all new:
Inbred Nation - "Ladies and gentleman, join me as I test a theory that has been circulating around my head for some time now. The theory: that no one in my family has ever or will ever read my articles, despite my having told them about it several times. My rant this time out is called Inbred Nation, and is an semi-autobiographical tale of the birth of your most beloved ruler of pop culture—me."
Badseed's Bottomline #391: TNA Moves Forward - "Hey yo! So, I have been enjoying the rebirth of ECW and the rebirth of DX so much over the past few months that TNA has sort of fell on the backburner. I know, it is messed up; TNA is the only real wrestling promotion out there these days and the company deserves better than to be ignored. Well, TNA has made sure that being ignored is impossible. They have made some major moves to be taken seriously. Oh, the WWE just handed it all to them on a silver platter."
