Each and every week at G-POP.net, we strive to bring you a tremendous variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week's issue:
First Impressions: Runaway / Heroes - In this installment of First Impressions, Ismael Manzano gives us his impressions of the new CW series, Runaway, and the new NBC series, Heroes.
Excerpt: "Once again, it's time for the fall's newest web-craze—my First Impressions. Alas, I come to you this week with a severe case of good news/bad news. Since everyone always wants the bad new first, I'll lead off with the CW's new original show, Runaway..."
Bring It On - All or Nothing - Jon Minners reviews the straight-to-DVD sequel to the hit cheerleader movie.
Excerpt: "Bring it On was not a theatrical hit, but it was a cult hit and after countless DVD rentals and airings on the USA Network, it has become somewhat of a classic amongst most film fans who see the film as a major vehicle for stars like Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku and Gabrielle Union, on their way to bigger projects along the way, more so for Dunst than anyone else. Of course, any film that becomes a hit warrants a sequel, or more so, force-feeds people a sequel..."
Sex Kittens: Single Cats Seeking Same - Melissa Minners reviews the hillarious book which features cats in dating ads.
Excerpt: "Every day, millions of people search for their soul mate. Some explore the club scene. Others look for their perfect match in the grocery store. Still others believe that they will find the love of their life while doing their laundry or in the middle of a church sermon. But a growing number of people are turning to dating services and personal ads to find that special someone, whether it be for one night of fun, or a lifetime full of love. Maybe you've explored these options yourself…or perhaps you know someone who placed an ad in their local paper hoping that the love of their life would respond. We've all seen these ads before: S.W.F. seeking S.W.M. for a night of raw passion with no strings attached, S.B.F. seeking same for moonlit walks, romantic dinners and maybe something more. Now, imagine that the individual placing the ad was of the feline nature. That's right; I'm talking about your every day house cat! What would your favorite Tom or Queen want to say in their ad?..."
Down to the Bone - In this installment of Class Act, Justine Manzano reviews the indie drama starring Vera Farmiga and Hugh Dillon.
Excerpt: "Once again, I revisit my film class to bring you reviews of the movies we watched and this time I have my professor to thank for discovering a rare gem. Previously, the movies we had watched in our film class were well known, even classics. Down To The Bone, directed by Debra Granik, was not well known. To be honest, there doesn't seem to be a soul who touched this project who is a household name. And that was great to me—I got to roam a (mostly) undiscovered country and perhaps, use this site to make the people involved a little more well known to a few more people. After all, that's what this site is all about..."
Alex Kidd In Miracle World - Ismael Manzano turns back the clock in his review of this hit Sega game.
Excerpt: "Not so long ago I did a review for Nintendo's Punch Out—one of my favorite games of all time—and since then I've been on a mission to replay as many of my old childhood games as possible. I don't have a regression problem, I just loved those old games—I swear. Anyway, in my quest for nostalgia, I pestered my wife to get me an old Sega master system from ebay. She did, and I was thrilled to learn that it was the console that came with Alex Kidd in Miracle World—another of my all time favorite games—built in. Naturally I played the hell out of it and as a result, I decided to share my experience with you, my loyal fan..."
Stranglehold - Jon Minners reviews the book about the final years of the American Wrestling Association.
Excerpt: "Capitalizing on the wrestling boom that was white hot in 1999, resulting in a plethora of books probing the subject, Stranglehold takes a different approach to covering the sports entertainment scene, examining the final years of a well-known, but long forgotten wrestling promotion - the American Wrestling Association..."
Minners Commentary Corner and Badseed's Bottomline are all new:
Minners Commentary Corner: Things You Never Forget: Don't Shit Where You Eat (Part II) - "So, Christina started working at Carvel and despite everyone liking her, and plotting and backstabbing to hook up with her, I landed a date. My friends were jealous. The hottest thing to come to Carvel and I was dating her. We were doing well as a couple and people couldn't stand the fact that I was happy. I never flaunted our relationship or even gloated that I "won" because I had never even tried. She liked me because I was being myself and not playing the game..."
Badseed's Bottomline #392: What's Up? - "Hey yo! What a whirlwind of news in the wrestling world these days. I just can't keep up. But I am going to try. Damn, Hardcore Holly is the friggin man. After his performance on ECW a couple Tuesdays ago, Hardcore Holly cemented his status as a true Hardcore Icon..."
