Each and every week at G-POP.net, we strive to bring you a tremendous variety of entertainment. Here's what's new for this week's issue:
Scoop - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack from the new mystery / comedy from Woody Allen.
Excerpt: "The soundtrack of Scoop seems to follow the guidelines of the classical comedies – classical music used in a way that adds an element of entertainment to the action and dialogue of an already entertaining movie. Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Khachaturian and more are used to strengthen the movie in ways immediately imaginable to the listener..."
First Impressions: 30 Rock - In this installment of First Impressions, Ismael Manzano gives us his impressions of the new NBC comedy.
Excerpt: "Well, we come at last to the last of my first impressions for this Fall's television season. So it is seems only fitting that I end this one as I started the first one, with a sole review. This time, I chose NBC's new comedy show, 30 Rock, starring Tina Fey (Saturday Night Live and Mean Girls), Alec Baldwin (too many things to list), and Tracy Morgan (Saturday Night Live)..."
A Challenge to Style From The Stylistically Challenged, Part Two: Me and My Monkey Suit - The second installment of Justine Manzano's feature series on the definition of style.
Excerpt: "Welcome to Part Two of my Definition of Style--dedicated to anyone who has ever been asked what they were thinking when they wore their clothes and to any 23 year old who has ever been told they dress like a soccer mom. Barbie is the fashion icon. She can set the bar in the lives of young girls as far as what is and what is not fashion. When a child goes to the store, Barbie comes fully dressed and accessorized in a chic and sophisticated outfit designed to make young girls coo. This amazement can even last a while into the experience of owning said Barbie. Then, something happens..."
Kingdom Come - Jon Minners reviews the DC graphic novel compilation of the four-part miniseries from Mark Waid and Alex Ross.
Excerpt: "...it was DC's Kingdom Come that made me realize that my interest in the U.S. comic industry was not dead. Essentially, Earth X was not a fluke. Marvel was picking up the pace and now even DC was worth the read. The return of GI-Joe and the inspired Walking Dead got me back into Image Comics. Anyways, with Kingdom Come, I have never wanted to read tales of Superman, Batman and the others so bad. Like a little kid again, I looked through the pages, anxiously reading the story and marveling at the fantastic images that told a better story than the words surrounding them. Suddenly, my love for comics has returned..."
Star Wars: Tatooine Ghost - Melissa Minners takes reviews another Star Wars novel - this one stars Han and Leia and takes place just after their celebrated wedding.
Excerpt: "Star Wars book fans have been clamoring for more books written about events taking place after Return of the Jedi.. and before the New Jedi Order.. series. They want books that fill in the gaps between the rise and fall of the New Republic. Most of all, they want to read more about their favorite heroes – heroes from the original trilogy. Enter Tatooine Ghost, a first attempt at answering the pleas of the many Star Wars book fans all around the world..."
That's A Wrap: Bronxites Unite For Completion Of First Major Film Project - Jon Minners revisits former 24 star Louis Lomardi's recently completed pet project Dough Boys: The Movie.
Excerpt: "For Bronx native and television star, Louis Lombardi, there is life after 24. Last season, America watched with sadness as their beloved computer geek, Edgar, masterfully played by Lombardi, died in an emotionally charged episode that ended his run on 24, but opened the doors to a floodgate of new projects, including the recently completed Dough Boys: The Movie."
The Marine - Jon Minners reviews the new action film starring wrestling star John Cena.
Excerpt: ""This movie reminds me of Commando," my friend, Mike, said turning to me when looking at the trailers for what was sure to be an action-packed thrill ride, The Marine. Starring John Cena, the wrestling fan in me popped for what I believed to be a surprise hit. Kane's See No Evil topped the $15 million it took to make the film and that was a horror movie. At a $30 million price tag, I assumed The Marine would follow suit."
Minners Commentary Corner and Badseed's Bottomline are all new:
Minners Commentary Corner: Jon Minners - Baseball Fan, Mets Lover, Bronx Traitor - "My name is Jon Minners and I am a traitor. Yep, as most of America (not me) prepares for the World Series, I must confess that although I was born in the Bronx, I am indeed a Mets fan...and I am very proud of it. But I am not your current Mets fan. I mean, look around you Bronxites. Do you see what I see? It's absolutely amazing. So many Mets fans abound. I have never walked through a Bronx street and seen so many New York Mets t-shirts, hats and memorabilia in the Bronx..."
Badseed's Bottomline #394: Vince McMahon Just Doesn't Get It - "Hey yo! I'm sticking with the random observations aspect of the Bottomline this week. So, much going on, so much to say: First, Kevin Federline in the WWE was just as whack as his CD sounds. He actually made Cena look bad. What happened? A horrible rap. A complete joke. I was embarrassed to be a wrestling fan. Oh, and Johnny Nitro and Melina need to sharpen those mic skills. Completely horrible..."
