What's New At G-POP.net:
Halloween Carnival: Volume 2 - Melissa Minners reviews a horror anthology edited by Brian James Freeman.
Excerpt: "I love the horror anthologies that Brian James Freeman puts together. His latest group of anthologies is set during Halloween, what is thought to be the most haunted night of the year. I missed Volume One, but there was no way I would miss the rest of them..."
Christine - Melissa Minners reviews the remastered soundtrack of the horror movie adaptation of a Steven King novel.
Excerpt: "... I enjoyed Christine so much, I eventually bought a copy of that Steven King novel and read it a number of times. I also bought a copy of the soundtrack on audio cassette. When I was told that the soundtrack would be remastered by Varese Sarabande Records for release on blue vinyl, I was extremely happy. This afforded me the opportunity to review a new remastered version of an album I already owned, but hadn’t listened to in a while..."
F(r)iction Series: Volume Eight - Melissa Minners reviews a magazine compilation of various forms of fiction from poetry to short stories to contest winning essays.
Excerpt: Every once in a while, I peruse the magazine section, looking for something that catches my eye and might be something our readers might want to know about. In the “creative writing” section (for lack of a better way of describing it), I found a magazine that seemed rather interesting. The cover featured bolts of lightning, seemingly caused by a female, towering above a desert where a young man with a hooded sweatshirt hunches against the wind and a woman has just lost her umbrella. Interesting cover to say the least. Perusing inside made me purchase F(r)iction Series: Volume 8 and check it out..."
Flatliners Soundtrack - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack of a 19990 science fiction horror film remake.
Excerpt: "...The remake of Flatliners may be a box office and reviewer’s bomb like I suspect it will prove to be. However, Nathan Barr’s music is a vast improvement over the score I heard while watching the original film. I wonder if we put Barr’s score with the visuals in the old movie..."
Halloween Carnival: Volume 3 - Melissa Minners reviews the third volume of a horror anthology edited by Brian James Freeman.
Excerpt: "As soon as I finished the second horror anthology in the Halloween Carnival series edited by Brian James Freeman, I had to check out the next one. I could have put the reviews of both books together in one article, but with authors and stories this good, each volume deserves its own special review. Without further ado, the review of Halloween Carnival: Volume Three..."
The Neon Demon - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack of the psychological horror film starring Elle Fanning.
Excerpt: "... The Neon Demon Soundtrack features an electronic score with electric guitars and synths at the forefront. There are a couple of songs on this album in addition to Cliff Martinez’ score...Martinez employs heavy reverb at times and plunks on high key notes, often sounding like the intonations of a child's piano. To me, this could be a nod toward the character’s innocence or a lapse into insanity, Black Swan style..."
