Once upon a time there was a girl named Goldilocks. Bored with her everyday life, Goldilocks decided to use the Three Bears' internet to find an entertaining website. Upon viewing her first e-zine, she exclaimed, "Too boring!" The second e-zine: "Too little substance!" The third e-zine she checked out was G-POP.net. "All things entertainment! G-POP.net is just right!"
Here's what's new this week:
Super Pet Expo - Melissa Minners reviews this year's Super Pet Expo held at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center.
Excerpt: "Last year, when I first heard about the annual event known as the Super Pet Expo, I couldn't wait to attend. The show's promoters promised hundreds of pet products, pet adoptions, live entertainment, exotic birds and so much more. I was truly excited and planned for this event way in advance…and then the snow storm hit and I was unable to attend. This year, I was determined to make it – and make it I did. Saturday, February 10, 2007, found me in the long line that wend its way through the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center and into one of the most exciting expositions of the year. If you thought I was excited about attending, you should have seen the numerous animals that were standing on line with me. Leashed pets were welcome and, believe me, pet owners were more than happy to bring their furry and feathered friends to the event..."
The Messengers - Jon Minners reviews the latest horror gilm from Sony Pictures and Ghost House Films.
Excerpt: "I didn't want to see The Messengers, but as is the case with many men, when a girl wants to see a film, you're bound to end up going. I can't complain – I've dragged my girlfriend to countless movies, but usually those movies…we both enjoy. The horror side has been covered. I picked Silent Hill. It was a great film. Considering our track record, I was hopeful that her choice, The Messengers, would be good..."
Moment Theory - Melissa Minners reviews the new EP from melodic hard rock band Moment Theory.
Excerpt: "A few days ago, I was invited to check out an EP from a band called Moment Theory, a local band formed in White Plains, New York. The band consists of Joe Salvatore on lead vocals and guitar, Bobby Bello on bass and vocals, and Mike Bambace on drums. I hadn't even received the CD yet and I was already intrigued by the name of the band..."
A Dead Calling - Ismael Manzano reviews the horror film from Lions Gate Pictures.
Excerpt: "I picked up A Dead Calling, from the local video store in the hopes of finding something new and interesting to watch. I picked a horror film, because they usually offer something of value even if it is not entirely great. This one, it turned out, was one of those movies..."
The Twelve Kingdoms: Shadow of the Moon, The Sea of Shadow: Chapter One: Shoku - Jon Minners reviews the fantasy / action film from Anime Works.
Excerpt: "It looks like we have a brand new classic on our hands. If you enjoy such movies as Lord of the Rings or the incredible Harry Potter series or even if you enjoyed following the adventure of Guts in Berserk, Twelve Kingdoms is definitely something anime…no…film lovers should definitely sink their teeth into..."
Class Act: A 21st Century Look at The Merchant of Venice - In this installment of the Class Act series, Justine Manzano takes a look at the Shakespeare classic, The Merchant of Venice.
Excerpt: "This semester I have returned to a class that is bound to lead to tons of Class Acts. This makes me a very happy girl. That class is Shakespeare Survey, and it involves reading several Shakespeare plays from throughout his varied genres. The first in this long line of plays that I will be reading is The Merchant of Venice, a comedy by the master of the written word!..."
Random Acts of Ismael and Badseed's Bottomline are all new:
Random Acts of Ismael: House: Why Am I Still Watching This Crap? - "Several months I wrote a rant out of pure necessity. The rant was entitled 'Why Smallville Would Be Better Without Clark.' It was a scalding diatribe as to why the show Smallville was quickly spiraling toward the toilet. Shortly afterwards, that rant was followed by a rant entitled, 'Why Am I Still Watching This Crap?' which further delved into the crap that has become Smallville. Well, the other day, while watching one of the shows I've started watching this season, I was struck with a sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach that I had not felt since the inception of the previously mentioned articles...The show in question is called House, and I'm ashamed to admit that I am unable to tear myself away from the television..."
Badseed's Bottomline #411: This Column is Subject to Change - "Hey yo!! I heard some shocking news about the WWE this week. What I was going to write about would have been probably my greatest column to date. It would have been exciting. It would have been talked about for years. It would have revolutionized columns from here on out. I decided to just write a regular column instead. How does the WWE announce and promote a thrilling ladder rematch between Regal and Taylor, London and Kendrick, MNM and the Hardy Boys one week and then decide to cancel the match, eliminate two of the company's biggest stars from what would have been a great match and then decide to give us London and Kendrick vs. Deuce and Domino? Are you serious?..."
