Here's What's New This Week:
Before you check out all of the new articles and original writing, I would like to inform you of some other new features on the site. We have recently updated the Contact/Submissions section to make it easier for folks to submit their work to our site for review or posting. We have also added a banner link to the section for those who would like to add us to their links page.
Grindhouse - Ismael Manzano reviews the new Robert Rodriguez-Quinten Tarantino collaboration movie double feature.
Excerpt: "Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you've heard about the latest collaboration between famed directors, Robert Rodriguez.. (Once Upon A Time in Mexico) and Quentin Taranatino.. (Pulp Fiction..), called Grindhouse. Grindhouse is the two director's attempt to return to the films they enjoyed in their youths..."
Jagged Little Pill - Melissa Minners Turns Back the Clock to review Alanis Morissette's breakout hit album.
Excerpt: "Ever notice that certain songs stay with you, no matter how long ago they were first introduced on the radio? The other day, I turned on my car radio and let out a joyful shout to hear one such song. I sang loudly along with the angry Canadian who came on the scene in 1995 with a hard-hitting album that raised some eyebrows. But once it had been out for a week or two, it was plain to see that everyone in America was quite prepared to swallow Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill..."
BirdsofPreyOnline.com - Melissa Minners reviews the website devoted to the Birds of Prey television show.
Excerpt: "Once upon a time there was a television show on the WB Network based on the DC Comics series, Birds of Prey. The show intrigues a great many people and fansites began to appear everywhere. The most notable and informative sites at the time were the Gotham Clocktower and Birds of Prey Online. Shortly after the cancellation of the Birds of Prey television series, most of these fansites folded. Five years later, one fansite is still going strong – Birds of Prey Online. The site's main page hasn't seen very much activity since 2005, but the forum is the most active I've seen since the Buffy Boards. Why is it that this one fansite has managed to last this ling and is still going strong? To discover the answer, we must look at the various parts of the site and break them down..."
Encores of the Week:
First Impressions: Drive - In this edition of First Impressions, Justine Manzano reviews the new FOX drama.
Excerpt: "Television seasons have become so strange. We've gone from Fall Season, to Fall Season and Mid-Season replacement to the new three-quarters of a season replacement. It's an odd construction, but it happens and we must strive to understand it. Sometimes it's a good thing. Windfall was a surprisingly fun little soap opera that survived all of last summer only to be cancelled the minute the fall shows came back. This season, however, we have been given doses of a new show to whet our appetite with: Fox's Drive. This series instantly annoyed me with its two hour Sunday premiere followed by its Monday night actual schedule. My DV-R does not like switchable schedules like this, but thankfully it survived, and I got to watch the premiere..."
Random Acts of Ismael: Bone to the Grind - Ismael Manzano rants about his ten year job anniversary.
Excerpt: "Hello once again residents of the only truly free, melting pot society—the internet—I'm back with yet another piss and moan rant about things I've observed throughout the course of my life to prove to you all that I apparently have not done much with my life if this is all I can think to complain about. You'll never read anything from me complaining about my recent trip to the moon or some new thing or another that I discovered or invented or charted. No. You get me complaining about things that I know about. And what do I know about? Today, it's working like a slave to get just enough money to not go bankrupt. Yeah!..."
Home of the Brave - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack of the controversial new war movie.
Excerpt: "Home of the Brave is the story of four soldiers returning from tours of duty in Iraq after a particularly harrowing experience....The musical score of the film is composed by Stephen Endelman.....an English-born composer who began composing award-winning musical scores at the age of eighteen..."
