What's huge, green and lovable and always has something to say? Shrek, of course...although, you're probably right, we at G-POP.net would definitely have those traits in common with the famous ogre...but we smell a whole lot better.
Here's What's New This Week:
Shrek the Third - Melissa Minners reviews the latest sequel in the Shrek series.
Excerpt: "In 2001, a friend and fellow co-worker recommended I watch an animated film entitled Shrek... The movie, about an ogre who rescues a princess in an effort to save his swamplands from an evil Lord, captured the hearts of millions with its quirky spin on fairytales...In 2004, Shrek 2 hit the theaters and was an instant success. This time around, Shrek is now married to Princess Fiona, the princess/ogre he met in the first movie. It is time for Shrek to meet Fiona's royal parents. Shrek's fears about meeting Fiona's parents are realized when they immediately reject him as their son-in-law. Fiona's Fairy Godmother, having long planned for her son, Prince Charming, to wed Fiona and become heir to the throne, devises a plan to destroy Shrek. However, with the assistance of his old friends, and a new one in a swashbuckling cat named Puss-in-Boots, Shrek and Fiona emerge victorious...And they lived happily ever after…Until 2007, when the long awaited Shrek the Third hit the theaters..."
Random Acts of Ismael: Fishing for Trouble - Ismael Manzano sounds off about the recent goings on between Amy Fisher and Joey Whatshisname.
Excerpt: "Warning: This Random Act is not for the faint of heart or intellect. If you fear you fit into one or both categories, please skip this article...Okay ladies and gentlemen of my own personal playground—the world, wide web—I'm back today with a message of love, triumph and perseverance that is sure to pluck at your heartstrings and reinvigorate all of your beliefs in romance, destiny, and—oh my god, I can't even type out that load of crap..."
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer - Melissa Minners reviews the soundtrack of the movie based on the murderous best selling novel by Patrick Süskind.
Excerpt: "...The soundtrack of any film should compliment it, add emotion and intensity to any scene and bring that scene home to the viewer. The soundtrack of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer does all of that and more. It basically tells the story of the film through the use of music. Without ever knowing the background story, one could understand the gist of what this film is about by listening to its soundtrack...."
Encores of the Week:
Spider-man 3 - Justine Manzano reviews the long-awaited sequel to the Spider-man movie series.
Excerpt: "Since I was a very small child, I have loved Spider-man. I was the younger sister of two avid comic book reading siblings, and so I immersed myself in comic book lore. It was no surprise to anybody that I grew up encircled by friends and a husband who loved comic books as much as I did...So, this year, we were very anxious to take in Spider-man 3, the third edition of a franchise we had all been obsessed with in the past. The third installment was promised to be the most action packed of the series, so who could wait?..."
Starship Troopers - Melissa Minners Turns Back the Clock to review a sci-fi movie cult favorite.
Excerpt: "When I first saw Starship Troopers, it was for its promised action-packed science fiction tale. I thought that it was going to be nothing more than a rollercoaster ride of action, aliens and special effects. I was surprised to discover that this movie was so much more. Based on the Robert Heinlein.. book of the same name, Starship Troopers is not just aliens, weapons, and hi-tech special effects. This is a social commentary on war and fascist government. Having read the book and seen the movie, I have discovered that I enjoy the movie version much more (an unusual occurrence for me) and have since seen the movie at least a dozen times. I recently received the Starship Troopers Special Edition DVD and was more than happy to pop it into the DVD player. "Would you like to know more?"..."
A Dame to Kill For - Ismael Manzano reviews one of the Sin City graphic novels scheduled to be featured in the Sin City 2 upcoming movie.
Excerpt: "Those of you in webland who follow my reviews know of the stellar review I gave to Frank Miller's.. Sin City and 300 movies. Well it was the latter film's success that prompted me to pick up on of Miller's graphic novels to read and enjoy. Unfortunately, the 300 graphic novels.. were pretty much sold out around my area, so I opted for the next best thing, the novel for which one of the stories of the upcoming Sin City 2 is based. This is how I came across A Dame To Kill For..."
